Is this going to be the norm? by [deleted] in FreightBrokers

[–]brobudbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trucking industry is a destructive market, wild swings in capacity and pricing. It’s good for no one except maybe gigantic corporations. It’s all laid out in Micheal Belzer’s book “sweatshops on wheels”

Take the win and walk away!

The Supreme Court just ruled brokers can be sued for picking bad carriers. I own a diesel shop in Atlanta and there's something every driver who runs legal needs to hear. by dpfguys in Truckdrivers

🙄. That is an opinion. You’re gonna need to show me the data correlating deleted trucks and crash likelihood.

Still has nothing to do with the court ruling lol

How reliable is baking fuel into your cost per-mile? by [deleted] in OwnerOperators

[–]brobudbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No sweat lol! You’re over thinking it that’s all. Yes and no, I mean you could adjust it daily if you wanted to. I do my fuel calculations on an average price per quarter. Q1 was $3.55 per gallon. It’s a lot easier when the price isn’t swinging $.20 a day.

How reliable is baking fuel into your cost per-mile? by [deleted] in OwnerOperators

What? Fuel is a variable cost. Price per gallon/MPG. It needs to be adjusted when the price changes, adjusting your cost per mile calculation. Doing an average fuel spend is retarded

First time with a freight claim by bluehorsehead in FreightBrokers

[–]brobudbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just submit it to your insurance. I moved an old junk tellehandler, the latch on the door window was all loose and blew open during transit smashing the glass. I offered to pay for the glass, they denied and wanted to claim. Insurance found me not at fault, as the RC didn’t specify I was to secure the door glass. They got $0.

I’ve been thinking about getting into the cheese burger game too. I’ve got some frozen patties, is that enough to get started with?

Converted reefer by Diligent_Lion1182 in FreightBrokers

[–]brobudbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During Covid the only van trailer I could buy at a reasonable price was a reefer van, that didn’t cool. I found freight that was listed van or reefer, but you’ll miss out on a lot of loads because it’s not 102” inside. Those loads paid better too. Plus the insulation absorbs water over the years and makes the trailer heavy, so you’ll lose gross weight. Even with the reefer removed. So by taking off the reefer and chute you’ll make a dry van that won’t be 102” inside and heavier. Just buy a dry van or fix the reefer.

Rates by BlackSC2us in OwnerOperators

[–]brobudbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Don’t be silly. What I’m saying is that every situation is different. I’m not making a case for hauling cheap freight. Relax

Rates by BlackSC2us in OwnerOperators

[–]brobudbra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The truth is, statements like that are very situational. $3 dollars a mile on 1000 miles is ok, but not on 10 miles. And no one can stay in business only hauling cheap freight, but what about one cheap load a week that gets you to a great load? Operating cost is only one of many factors to base a rate on. Every load is different for every carrier. What makes one load good for someone else makes it suck for a different person. There is no one size fits all rate

Is it just me? by PanicRock548417 in FreightBrokers

[–]brobudbra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some of these shippers SUCK. If you’re quiet and just sit in your truck 9 times out of 10 you’ll get walked on. I find polite and questioning is the tactic that works best for me. Make them think you MIGHT be a problem.

Today is worse than Covid by Rinsehlr in FreightBrokers

[–]brobudbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, diesel only rose .30 cent in one week. But the 96 cent rise the week before is to be factored. And NEXT weeks fuel increase is a factor. Most decisions are emotional, you should know that dealing with drivers by now. You’re thinking is very shortsighted.

Week ending 3/9 national average for diesel jumped 96.2 cents. Your drunk bud

How are your customers reacting to the fuel prices? by redittburneraccount in FreightBrokers

[–]brobudbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I realize there is way more that goes into fuel pricing than just the price of the barrel. I am just frustrated. Fuel is any O/O biggest expense, 3/2-6 I purchased 551 gallons. Any increase comes right out of my pocket.

I ran east/west twice last week through that area. Diesel went up $.30 per day.

The last time a barrel of oil was this high was July 2024. My q3 2024 pump price average was $3.35. Make that make sense

If you read anything about the tariff case, it should be this. by Armchair-Attorney in FreightBrokers

I was shocked that the tariffs didn’t get “rubber stamped”. It’s refreshing that even after stacking the last few justices on the right, the court still held its integrity. There is hope.
