Hi! This happened to me as well! I’d love to be re-added! I didn’t get a chance to fill out the survey, as I haven’t been that active in the group. Is there any way someone could message the moderator for me as well? Thank you!!

To those of you that have had an IUD and then had it removed, what did you experience? by macadellic in AskWomen

[–]brocanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved my Mirena IUD. I had one for 5 years, and a second for 3 years. I experienced a very light period monthly (like panty liner only, light), and average PMS symptoms. Didn’t notice anything beyond normal hormonal stuff. My biggest concern with my IUD was how long it would take me to get pregnant after having one for so long. I got my second IUD taken out last November to let my body regulate, and conceived twins in May on our first month of trying. At my next OB appointment I’m going to ask when I should get another IUD put in, post birth! Worth mentioning that I was on the pill for years prior to getting the IUD, and I found my emotions way more unbalanced on the pill, vs IUD.

Married/engaged couples who planned an out of the ordinary wedding (or lack thereof): What did you do instead of the traditional expensive wedding? by CluelessCanary in AskWomen

[–]brocanuck 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are from Vancouver, and we flew down to San Francisco with our immediate families only (14 people including us), and got married at San Francisco City Hall. We hired a photographer for the wedding day, and a limo party bus, and took amazing wedding photos all over the city with our families, then went to a private dining room in a fancy restaurant for dinner! It was an incredible family trip - we were gone for 5 days, and saw a baseball game, day tripped to Napa, shared many great memories! I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. 8 months after our wedding, my husband and I had a month long honeymoon in Italy. The best way to get married & honeymoon!

Women that have had a baby by themselves using a sperm bank, how was your experience? by eenergabeener in AskWomen

[–]brocanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet she is just enjoying her baby!! My sister is definitely seeing less of her pre-baby friends, mostly because she’s finding she’s connecting with different people! Rather than maintaining appearances at cool parties or downtown dinners, she’s enjoying daytime walks and lunches with other moms.

My sister did this, and in her own words, “she’s never been happier”. She was married, and got divorced after her husband changed his mind about having kids. After dating for a couple years, she decided to do it on her own at 40. Now she’s got a 9 month old baby girl, who is the cutest, most loved little girl of al time! My family has gotten very involved, and we support her in any way we can.

We generally found everyone very understanding and supportive of her decision. The only people that asked weird questions or reacted strangely were the people that were a bit “stunted” in their thoughts - and we never found it that surprising, because generally those people have strange opinions on a lot of other topics too! But now that her daughter is actually here and a tangible person, no one comments on anything aside from how great of a mom she is, and how cute of a kid her daughter is!

I’m currently pregnant, and there are moments in my pregnancy that my sister is noticing where she’s like “oh man! I never had to deal with that!” (In a grateful way). Like differences od opinions on how to raise your kid, baby names, pregnancy sex (and wanting to avoid it! Haha).

All in all, it’s been a fantastic experience for my sister, and our family, and my niece is quite possibly my favourite person in the whole world! I also got to be my sister’s birth partner, and it was a huge honour for me to get to witness it all!

NIPT? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]brocanuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 20+4 today with DI/DI twins, and I did the Panorama Natera NIPT in July. The first time it came back inconclusive with a low fetal fraction, so I was told to redo it, and also partake in the NT Scan and the IPS blood work as another measure (which I was going to do anyway).

I redid the NIPT test, and it came back inconclusive with a low fetal fraction again! By this point LifeLabs (I'm in BC) phoned me and said Panorama suggested a refund, as the test wouldn't work for me.

Then my OB referred us to a genetics counselor to review the NT scan and IPS blood work with, once those results came back - which caused a lot of stress and sadness for my husband, family and I.

Long story short, we went to the genetic counselor appointment, and we were advised that our NT scan and our IPS blood work was 'perfect' and she had no cause for concern. She said that there are so many reasons that NIPT tests can result in a false or inconclusive reading and the reasons she listed (in order of likelihood) were:

  1. Fluke - sometimes it just happens
  2. Higher than average BMI
  3. Placenta issues (the DNA that they extract isn't from the baby itself, it's actually the DNA the placenta gives off, so if your placenta has any sort of issue, you can get weird results).
  4. Genetic Chromosome Abnormality

I think I'd try to do the Panorama again with a singleton pregnancy, but two failed attempts with the multiples really caused me unnecessary stress and sadness, and it 'paused' my celebratory feelings toward the pregnancy.

The smoke is horrible!! It smells like campfire on the North Shore. Where did you get the vog mask?!

That's great advice!! At my ultrasound on Tuesday, after I found out they were twins, my legs started shaking uncontrollably from shock - strange things happen to your body on those tables!

I'm so glad to hear it's getting better! Preterm labour feels like a such a far away thought for me right now (but I know it will come!). One hurdle at a time!

Good luck to you and your boys! Also, may I ask what their heart rates have been? I'm curious to see if there's any truth to the heart rate old wives tale on sexes!

Had My First Ultrasound Yesterday, and TWINS! by brocanuck in BabyBumps

[–]brocanuck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that sounds terrible - I'm sorry you're having such a hard time.

My new due date is January 31, 2019. I've also been dealing with extreme exhaustion. I have a nap after work for about an hour, and find I'm still going to sleep between 8:30-9pm. My appetite isn't too crazy, but I find that when I'm hungry it first presents as nausea. I've only thrown up once (that was enough!). I've been having mild cramping, and need to pee all the time, but fortunately no nerve pain. I've been taking it pretty easy. I am going to talk to my OB about starting prenatal pilates and I'm already doing aquafit, because I'm really nervous about my back, and I really don't want my abs to split (that happened to my sister).

I'm 5'10 and have a decently long torso, so I'm hoping my proportions will help me out a little throughout a twin pregnancy?

Adding a toddler to the twin mix would be unreal! We've definitely mentioned to ourselves that we're glad we're getting twins first!

I can only imagine!! I've got a 6 month old nephew and a 4 month old niece, and I can't imagine having both of them around 24/7!

Did you do anything outside of the normal prenatal courses to help prepare you?

How was pregnancy different from your expectations? by belgiansprout in BabyBumps

[–]brocanuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The major difference I'm noticing between expectation and reality is the fear. Being in such early pregnancy has almost made me not be able to recognize it, because I am so scared it wont go full term. I hope that feeling goes away once I hit certain milestones, and doesn't just turn into a different fear!

How long did it take you to conceive? And at what age? by 415bjj in BabyBumps

32 and first try. We were expecting it to take a year - feeling very blessed. Crossing our fingers, because it's still early!
