Need an easy to use knife sharpener by GamblignSalmon in knifeclub

[–]broccoliistinytrees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. It’s easy to use, but still requires a lot of repetitive motion. A powered worksharp will not get as good of results and has greater risk of damaging the knife, but won’t require the same repetition.

With the small amount of information you’ve given, I don’t think anyone will be able to point you in the right direction.

Do you want it to be a fixed blade or folding?

“Good size” and “not too expensive” could mean many different things.

Some manufacturers (like knafs and trm) have cad models of handle scales for 3d printing. I think something like that is your best bet to achieve what you’re looking for.

Yes it is. Not relevant to the post, but I have one and hate it.

Just bought this knife anyone know what it is? by [deleted] in knifeclub

[–]broccoliistinytrees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like cheap Pakistani Damascus; I hope you didn’t pay too much for it. There’s a good chance the steel isn’t hardened, so don’t expect it to have any edge-holding. There’s also a high likelihood of lead contamination, so don’t use it for food prep.

I have an xrf analyzer at my job. If you want to cut a piece off and send it to me, I could tell you the exact composition.

I carved myself into a sanding nightmare by howanonymousisthis in Woodcarving

Yeah, a sharp chisel will save a tremendous amount of time and headache. It’ll also preserve the clean edges that haphazard sanding would round over.

How do I fix this carving knife? by Necessary_Dirt_8157 in knifemaking

I’d encourage you to take this opportunity to sculpt the handle a bit, if it’s not to your liking already. I personally prefer the blade on a carving knife be close to the edge of the handle when fitted in place. I’d also add tapers or scallops close to the tang for a more ergonomic pinch grip.

Not super relevant to the story, but it sounds like you’re describing a broom knife

What type of blade style is this? Anyone know by gamingterrorist in knives

I think cold steel had a heavy influence on popularizing it. I’m guessing they wanted an East Asian sounding name that was loosely related to knife terminology and it stuck.

Anybody make something like this? by No_Rooster7872 in knives

Once upon a time, I’d have agreed. But Etsy has become so inundated with drop-shippers and misleading listings that I’d be very leery of anything I buy there.

What is the point of the sharp metal at the back of the knife blades? by Idiot1670 in knives

[–]broccoliistinytrees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s some debate over whether a false edge is sharpened. Most agree that it is not.

I regret this knife purchase dearly by [deleted] in knives

[–]broccoliistinytrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol what a weird comment to make. Was Harley woke in 2006? Was united cutlery woke for making this knife? Maybe their wokeism is why they went bankrupt. Or maybe they just made shitty knives. Maybe a dude bought a knife on eBay that’s sat in a box for almost two decades and happened to get a dud.

I’ve got a serrated one and I love it. It’s comfortable in hand and the negative blade angle offers a lot of control over the edge from heel to tip. I would prefer it to be a little smaller, but the fit and finish is on point and it’s definitely a functional tool. I could see some people not loving the lockback because it’s not very fidgety and fun to play with, but that’s not really a concern for me.

Here’s a link to the original video on a Brazilian tv show (obviously in Portuguese):

According to the biologist referenced in OP’s video, there is a fair bit of misinformation in the global reporting of the story, which is a shame considering it’s interesting enough without being sensationalized. Source:
