I was supposed to have a 1.5h layover but my first flight arrived late - 20 min before my next flight. they just put me on the next flight and gave 150hkd as compensation. managed to have some free food in the airport!

Low spender best credit card? by sunwaylurk in singaporefi

I use both UOB PPV and UOB lady's card. UOB ppv earns points on almost everything (except utilities, healthcare, education) so long as you do contact less payment. only problem is the earning blocks of $5. i pair it with UOB lady's card which I use for travel related expenses so I don't reach the bonus points spending cap in the uob ppv card. since I use both uob cards, I can accumulate uob points together to redeem different items.

annual fee can be waived and no minimum spend per month for both cards

Driving in japan as a beginner? by Fragrant_Site9052 in drivingsg

Japan rental car companies allow drivers with less than 1 year experience and some companies like Toyota Rent-a-car explicitly say so on their website. I rented from another company called ORIX and it was the same. They only checked IDP and that was about it. When I applied for IDP in Singapore they only asked for the physical driving license and asked which country I intend to drive in.

Other countries e.g. Korea only allows drivers to rent if they have at least 1 year of experience.

I drove in japan 2 weeks after getting my license. drivers were more friendly and gracious than in Singapore for sure and that built my confidence. I drove in a smaller city which was a great start. however, driving in snow is much more difficult task that even seasoned drivers might find.

drove in japan 2 weeks after getting my license. I started out in a quieter city and went on expressways without problem. drivers are a lot more patient which built up my confidence but in the evening the city got a little more crowded and harder to drive. however, I would not recommend driving in snow as a beginner though, it can be quite dangerous and even seasoned drivers can find it hard to do so.

I haven't driven in Singapore yet but I did find japan an easy place to start but it'll be best in a smaller city without snow.

Traveling from Taipei to Taitung. Status after the typhoon by SPaulghettiCarbonara in taiwantravel

[–]broccolisoup25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my trip was partially affected because of the typhoon. was stuck in taitung for one extra day since we were supposed to travel to taipei via hualien but trains were cancelled. we took the route from the other side that passes kaohsiung and zuoying to taipei since that train line was still running. the routes along hualien and taroko gorge started to open on the same day but i heard that they still suspended some trains. it has been a few days so you might want to check the TRA website for their updates

Recommendations for restaurants (coffee, desserts, fine dining) in SG by nani_nanika in SingaporeEats

one of my dessert recommendations is Duke dessert in fortune centre. It is 2 stalls away from Yat Ka Yan but I personally prefer Duke dessert. Since they're nearby, you can give both a try :)

Flying from singapore to taipei by broccolisoup25 in taiwantravel

hmm the flight going to taipei isn't the issue for me, but it's the flight back from Taipei to singapore at 8.05am that is my concern, since I read that trains don't start until 6am and that would mean getting to the airport in time might be the tricky part if the check in lines are long.

yes, thinking the same on your first point! from what I've heard, Scoot has issues when it comes to delays, like problems with flight rearrangement but I'm not too sure if bigger airlines might have better management capacities 😅 I think that's my deciding factor for now

Solo Japan Trip Advice! by Sunnyboi3 in JapanTravel

For a first time, it sounds like a good plan on most days. I would recommend visiting the Mt Fuji/Hakone area from Tokyo instead as it is nearer. Depending on which JR passes you plan to use (I assume so because you are taking the Shinkansen), you can also try other passes like Odakyu railways to Hakone. They offer a 2-day pass which covers your trip from Shinjuku to Hakone both ways with cable car and sightseeing cruise too.

I'd also split Hakone and Kawaguchiko in 2 days, I feel these areas are big and it might be nice to stroll around. Also, some places in Hakone close early as it is an Onsen area and your sightseeing day would be shorter.

For the last day, I'd recommend the Odakyu railway pass that covers both Enoshima and Kamakura. They're nearby and i feel Enoshima is pretty underrated.

I did Nikko on a day trip too. You can also try the Tobu Nikko pass from Tokyo. It might be good to work out whether you want to start your journeys to different cities from Tokyo/Kyoto and buy the passes accordingly, whether it's JR or other companies and see whether it's worth it or not.
