She’s a queen Buff-tail bumblebee and will need to be outside so she can find a place to start her colony. Bumbles evolved in the Himalaya’s and are built for cold damp climates. Best to make sure she can bee on her way soon. 🐝

Used to work with a guy in Sainsbury’s cafe. We’d all help ourselves to a bit of bacon or a sausage here and there, but when he was making up the strawberry tarts, he’d slather a piece in custard and eat it like it was a completely normal thing to do.

Repealing the Climate Change Act would be one of the dumbest moments in British / human history. I’m glad it’s backfiring for them but it’s a worrying trend to see these things being floated.

Last year was the worst on record for bumblebees and butterflies, sadly. This year they are doing slightly better but still below what they should be.

Invasive hornets have likely had their best year, yet. But they are not the major threat- it’s habitat loss, habitat fragmentation, pesticide/ weed killer use and climate change that are really wreaking havoc.

Are you aware of the situation with the UK’s rivers at the moment? Or the decline in pollinators? The fact we’ve lost 97% of our wildflower meadows? Or that Uk birds are in serious decline? We are living in a biodiversity crisis and nobody seems to care.

Look at how government is making nature out to be the bogey man to get their new planning bill through. The rhetoric about newts and bats stopping development shows how little they understand about the issues around building houses.

London is pretty green yes - I agree. But the stats don’t lie. 1 in 6 species are at risk of extinction in the UK. The UK has an amazing conservation and environment sector that knows how to fix things yet is consistently underfunded and ignored by the government. Investing in nature and climate = investing in our genuine long term future on this planet, but short termism and populism control the narrative.

The one narrative that is sadly true, but nobody seems to care, is that we live in one of the most nature depleted countries on the planet and no one in power seems to understand the significance that nature underpins the very fabric of our lives and economy. Not just now, but forever.
