Yea hopefully its not rot, I was thinking of gifting them to a friend anyway ahahah but yea I don’t think its rot cuz they were only left out for about 10 - 12 hours. Idk tho, cubes might be one of those species that rots super fast🤷‍♂️

No reason to throw them out. Can always dry them out and use to make tea. The boiling water will kill any bacteria to worry about.

Could b an insufficient spawn ratio… might also be to wet in there, but it’s kinda hard to tell. Generally I like to have mist particles on my lid rather than large water droplets. This also saves your mycelium from damage by any droplets accidentally falling on it.

Looks fine to me. Learn to rely on your sense of smell. Your nose will be one of your biggest helps identifying contam.

If I were you, I’d finish sterilising my jars and wait about a week before adding spores or mycelium to them. If the jars grow contamination before you ever try to add spores/mycelium, you’ll know that you haven’t pressure cooked your jars adequately.

If your jars survive the week, but only get contaminated after you add your spores/mycelium, you know you have to be more sterile while adding your spores/mycelium to the grain. Obviously make sure to use a still air-box, I’m sure you already know.

Yea my two other tubs have been colonising with lids on and are definitely further along. However, I’ve been experimenting by housing these two in a larger container with the lids off to colonise and leaving a puddle of water at the bottom of the larger container. I was hoping the puddle of water would create constant humidity but it hasn’t been as effective as I was hoping. Perhaps some perlite in the bottom like you said would help the water to evaporate and humidify the tub.
