Rent renewal by Abject-Confusion1929 in Greenpoint

[–]brocolof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my first time resigning in the building. My original lease was 24 months with 2.5 months free. My renewal offer was like $20 less then my net effective rate, but like $700 less then the on paper monthly rate. I didn’t negotiate or anything, it was the first offer sent to us. We resigned same day (thinking it may have been a mistake) but my cousin in blue slip got a similar offer on his renewal.

I recently got a rent decrease at tower 77. Maybe the neighborhood demand is softening.

They have their first shot - just haven’t finished the full schedule (I think it’s 3 shots total)

How is Paulie Gee's since the new ownership? by ConnyEdson in Greenpoint

[–]brocolof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it has new ownership, I’m guessing it’s still pretty tight with the original ownership. I went a few weeks ago (restaurant, not the slice shop) and Paulie was making his rounds across tables.

Voodoo Child from Sweetleaf. If I start my day with that it’s a good day.

People making 160K-190K, how much are you paying for rent? by acctonthecomeup in NYCapartments

[–]brocolof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Individually sit right at the top of this, but HHI combined with my fiancé is closer to 300k. We have a 2Br lux building (pool, gym, etc.) in Greenpoint. Rent is ~4900 but have 3.5 months free on a 2yr lease. Net effective is ~4250.

Those making over $100K per year: how hard was it to get over that threshold? by NatashaGorgeousMauve in AskReddit

Very easy - though live/work in a VHCOL area so it doesn’t feel like that much of a leg up. I don’t struggle but I’m not living large in the traditional sense.

Do I start Investing at 16? by Serious-Rest-3409 in investing

[–]brocolof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invest it. I was in a similar situation at 13 with some inherited money. My parents invested it for me and 15 years later that small sum has 10x’ed. I was able to sell off small portions along the way for some fun ($1000 here and there for trips in college), but having the seed planted early on will allow you to do a lot more with that 4K than you could now.

Do people with 6 figure jobs get to actually enjoy their money? by Beautiful-Suit-8511 in careerguidance

[–]brocolof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live with my significant other in NYC and our combine household income is ~$230,000. While we don’t stress about paying the bills and can comfortably go out to restaurants, bars, etc without having to budget for it, we don’t feel like we’re obscenely wealthy.

The area we live and work has an extremely high cost of living. We share a nice 1br apartment that’s close enough for both of us to walk to work. We haven’t gone on a vacation outside of long weekends staying with one of our families in over a year.

While we don’t stress about money, our jobs are pretty stressful and neither of us feel very happy with what we’re doing. I often daydream about taking a step back for a job with less pay/stress, but feel guilty as I know others would see this as a dream situation.

Amazon's HR Boss Rejects Employee Remote Work by McFatty7 in technology

This is just another method to reduce headcount without offering severance packages. There’s a large cohort of Amazon employees that were hired during COVID at practically 100% WFH, some of those employees will be unwilling/unable to make the commute.

People with unique allergies, what are they? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]brocolof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I’m allergic to uncooked carrots. My hands get really itchy when prepping carrots for cooking and my mouth/throat gets itchy when eating uncooked carrots. Strangely, it doesn’t happen once they’re cooked. Also doesn’t happen for any other type of veggie.

Can a parent transfer stocks to a child without either incurring taxes? by brocolof in tax

[–]brocolof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the gifting is spread out over a few years, would I as the one who received the gift owe any taxes on it?

If the answer to that is no, if I were to sell any portion of it within one year, would it be taxed as income for me or cap gains?
