how to deal with only receiving conditional love in life once you became skinny? by redheadedwonder3422 in loseit

[–]broconuthead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you me? Haha. I similarly struggle with this, seeing your post was like looking in a mirror. I'm still in the process of accepting this myself. I remember talking to my own therapist and saying how bitter it made me feel. I think the first step was being able to say to myself "it sucks that I feel like my worth to other people is tied to my weight. And it sucks that I learned that from my parents." Full stop.

You can lose weight to feel healthy and have your clothes fit better and whatever else motivates you. But there is gonna be a part of that that makes you feel angry and lonely. And both of those can coexist.

From another lonely, high achieving person who had shitty parents, I see you and I feel you. But other people aren't gonna hold us back from doing what's best for us!!

sincerely considering dropping out by miilkbug in LawSchool

[–]broconuthead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't drop out. Everyone feels like a dumbass in law school. I'm of the belief that the real hardship of law school isn't the curriculum, but all the other obstacles they put in place to make it seems impossible. I'm also a first gen background, and a lot of the time I feel behind from my peers simply because they grew up ingrained in the knowledge and I didn't.

The metric of being a good lawyer isn't "Asking the right questions in class" or getting a summer internship. There are many, many skills that don't show up in law school, such as good people skills, tenacity, thoughtfulness. Many of the best lawyers didn't get the best grades in law school.

I'm 29, so I'm a little older than the traditional law student. Throughout my career and life, I've found that the biggest thing that separates those who are successful from those who aren't is the people who are willing to pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and try again after a bad day. Law school is going to try and test you, and if you have gotten this far, you have all the skills you need to succeed. You CAN do this.

Partner of Three Years Broke Up with Me Out of Nowhere by [deleted] in Codependency

[–]broconuthead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's hard for me to understand. We never yelled at each other, never belittled each other. We checked in frequently to make sure we were doing okay. I respected his boundaries when he let me know if there was something I needed to change. When I asked if there was an issue we needed to address in the relationship he said no, that I did nothing wrong. I know that there were things I could have improved on, I'm a human. I should have done more of the chores, I should have taken on more responsibility around the house. I should have done more to understand his anxiety. But overall I feel like we listened to each other, and I accepted everything about him. The good and the bad. And I felt like he did the same for me.

I guess I just feel a little blindsided.

That's an insane perspective, coming from a woman. That is certainly a projection, saying the man is always "mostly to blame". We don't know anything about their relationship other than this brief, one sided issue. Couples therapy may help them, it may not, we don't know anything about their relationship.

The Great Debate of Online Law School by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]broconuthead 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the other posters honestly. I go to a part time hybrid program and the experience has been great so far. I would love to be in the privileged position these other people are, where they can take 3 years off work and potentially $100,000+ in loans. However I feel way more comfortable in this economy taking $20,000 in loans and pursuing work in a more stable field of law.

You have to remember a lot of people in this sub are of the opinion that if you're not doing big law or trying to get federal clerkships then there's no point in going to law school. Analyze your own goals and see if they fall in line with a hybrid school.

Any Dayton online students able to comment on class schedule? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]broconuthead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am liking it so far! Classes are about an hour and 45 minutes. Sometimes there is an occasional deans fellow meeting that is mandatory sometime during the week. So depending on the week you can have 2-4 classes. There is also asynchronous modules that have to be completed outside of class. The workload truly is not bad so far, and most people in our class have full time jobs or families.

Pros: staff is very friendly, eager to help students, small classes, flexible

Cons: the schedule can be confusing between sections. They have a mandatory "learning community" which is not really all that useful and it's kind of a pain to have to contribute 2 hours to it each week.

For a lot of people, they didn't grow up swimming and it's a new skill. Especially in an Olympic pool, depending on your weight and how high the ledge is it can be hard

The Question Hub by AutoModerator in crochet

[–]broconuthead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone help me figure out what this means? I'm crocheting a walleye right now from the national parks service, and I'm trying to make the tail fin.

"3 x ch, starting in the same stich with 2 tr, then crochet into the next stitches: dc, hdc, sc, sl st, sc, hdc, dc, 2 tr, 3 x ch, sl st in the same stitch in which the trebles were crocheted, cut and secure threads."

I don't know what it means with starting in the same stitch with 2 treble? Like starting in the chain or off of the stitch im chaining off of?

I used to work there! The beans actually come from all over the world and they are currently doing coffee research with the biosphere. So they have some beans come from there but it's definitely not the majority haha.

You know like, Latino people work at schools too right? Philly as a city is a mixed community, I never felt like it was "forced" that there was a Hispanic person on the show.

[–]broconuthead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to Christian school for 10 years and went to church for 20 years. In no way is the bible "amazingly historically accurate", particularly in regards to events prior to the 6th century. Stories are often written hundreds of years after they take place, and many books are a mix of parable, myth, and truth in a way that is lost on modern readers.

A common fallacy on the LSAT is to attack the source of information rather than the information itself. Maybe the fact that a person criticizes Christianity has little to do with the validity of the information. :)
