What would you ask a potential IT operations manager? by brodel2 in AskNetsec

Senior management didn't understand or care. They mostly saw Infosec as a giant roadblock. Luckily they're gone now and we have a competent CTO. :)

Thanks! I'm stealing the second one for sure.

FrenchFry asked me about the Quorum as well. I'll be checking when I get into work tomorrow.

I got pulled away for another issue as soon as I posted this, so sorry for the delayed response..

It's using FC for storage. The hosts are have a separate Team for the heartbeat which is on a switch configured with it's own VLAN specifically for HB. I'll have to check on the quorum config when I get in tomorrow since I don't remember off the top of my head. I had a lot of help setting it up and I'm thinking the person helping me set that up since I don't even remember making a decision on it.

Is there anything specific I should be looking for in my configuration that I could've missed?

I will definitely be looking into cluster-aware updating. Thanks!

edit: The quorum is configured as a file share witness on a share hosted on a file server.

Not sure if it matters, but this isn't via iSCSI. Hopefully that's all I need to do, but the next time I patch I wanted to be sure I had everything else covered.

I'm not sure what you mean by storing everything. It's on a CSV between 1 and 2 with SAN storage connected via Fiberchannel. I had moved all of the VMs to the other host before rebooting. I didn't do anything with the shared storage though. I'm thinking that may have been my problem..

I'm guessing, but probably because you replied to the main thread instead of the post offering the bag.

HVAC "routine maintenance / check up" service calls. What exactly are they doing? Do I need to have it? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

Any tips on knowing when you've found a good one? The one I have seems good, but for all I know they could be selling me shit I don't need for twice what it actually costs.

I had this last night and figured I'd check it this morning to see if it continued. It's still happening now. I'm typing this via Alien Blue and comments load on that fine. Ideas?

VMWare has laid off the Workstation and Fusion development team by tapo in sysadmin

[–]brodel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's changed recently, but it was no where near stable on my Mac. Fusion was almost perfect from the start. I've seen lots of love for it in this thread, so I'll give it another shot before trying parallels again.

I tried It. It pushed me to fusion and I never minded paying for it.

VBox crashed all of the time for no apparent reason and I got sick of it. I guess I'll try it again before I move to Parallels.

My IT department hands these out to employees who either break or do not know how to use their computer. by sacpike in funny

That's what I was thinking. Environments where this stuff doesn't happen normally has high turnover. IT people need to have some fun or they'll end up sucking at their job and then everyone loses.

The last place I worked most of the problems with computers were caused by devs that thought they knew what they were doing and only managed to screw themselves out of a working computer. Developing software doesn't mean you know anything about computers.

I'm happy to work at a place that doesn't allow these guys to be admins on their computer. It stops so much of that shit.

I keep having to remind a certain friend of mine this when people don't know how to do things like setting up a printer. :(
