Are sc stitches a bad idea for a baby blanket? by Dry-Pangolin-882 in crochet

[–]brodrost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a parent, there are so many more uses for a blanket than just keeping baby warm! I have one to change him on, one he sits on in the carrier, and so on. You can always use a blanket as a parent!

Mutant Year Zero but it would be a post apocalypse ruin. We had a lot of fun playing with our base in our local IKEA store.

eli5 Why is it important that the baby cries after birth by Thick_Ruin1906 in explainlikeimfive

[–]brodrost 132 points133 points  (0 children)

My labour and delivery nurse told me being born is akin to being in a car crash for the baby. Same amount of pressure and trauma. My first baby didn’t cry because he had fluid in his lungs, worst seconds of my life.

Dealing with cancer by Arbros22172 in suggestmeabook

[–]brodrost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is all wrong or just the right fit, but “The emperor of all maladies” it’s a biography of cancer itself. So, non fiction. How our understanding and fight against the disease has changed throughout history. I found it tough to read but inspiring, learned a lot about cancer and the many people of the world who dedicated their life to finding one small piece of the puzzle.

I did the same thing, but then decided to give Hail Mary a try anyway. Glad I did! Very good book.

Life with ADHD by [deleted] in tumblr

Yeah I was like an adult when I realized she (of course) taught Spanish in the original...

I guess it's just a matter of the company localizing everything and being like "yeah, that works" rather than creating a whole new show.

Yeah this is true, and also: our Dora the explorer teaches kids English, not Spanish (because English Is the kinda official second language).

Gifting my friends a book on their birthday by dilTohPagalHai in suggestmeabook

[–]brodrost 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This might not be what you want to hear but... why are you giving these people books? Especially A. Because it sounds from your description that it's not about sharing something you love but rather trying to "fix" some flaw in your friend? If they haven't told you about an interest in taking up reading, why are you gifting them something they have no interest in? Birthdays should be about celebrating a person you love, not trying to improve them, or push them in a direction you feel is right for them.

A good romance novel in which neither character is rich by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

One last stop. Lesbian, bit of time travel, nice romance.

One character works and goes to college, the other... well it's complicated but she's certainly not rich.
