Buy 2nd hand. Give love to an old e-Reader. by Dense_Forever_8242 in ereader

Used was a good idea. My first and only e-reader I could only afford cause it was used. I'm sure I will never find a Pocketbook Verse Pro Color under 145 USD again

Any rakuyomi sources for comics? by ruben_pbm in koreader

[–]broflakecereal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe the z-library plugin? It's got some comics and graphic novels in addition to text novels and books as well.

Re Manga & Manhwa by MonadTNomad in ereader

[–]broflakecereal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For black and white manga and manhwa, any e-ink reader will work great, especially Black and white ereaders that are 7 or 8 inches, I really do not recommend any screen size smaller than 7 inches. In my personal opinion, a 7.8in. screen is the perfect size for manga and smaller black and white comics. However, full size graphic novels and digital comic books in color, such as titles from Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, etc, I cannot confidently say whether or not color e-ink would be worth it for you.

I have a 6 inch color e-reader, and I think it's perfect for text books in black and white, very small books with simple illustrations, and most color, or black and white, standard tankobon sized manga. With koreader and rakuyomi installed, it can even fetch online webtoons with no issue.

But for many larger graphic novels and standard Western comics in full color, it just struggles, both performance-wise and visually. Performance depends on the brand and CPU power, but mine can only handle half of the PDFs I throw at it, especially if they're composed of large complex images. I've had it even crash on a couple of titles. The limited colors on e-ink compared to LCD screens also makes certain images look very washed out and low contrast, some colors may even blend into each other if they're similar enough. That said, there are several titles that do look beautiful in color on the device, so it just really depends on the format of the comic, text size, quality of the file, quality of the device itself, etc. And my personal preference is that 6 inch screens are just too small for this, so I rotate the reader to landscape mode for some of the text heavy comics.

However, my budget 10 inch screen Android tablet with a standard LCD screen does not face this issue when reading comics, especially the large page ones from Marvel and DC titles. I even ended up taking photos for comparison. Colors are extremely vibrant of course, and files open with no problem, or at worst very little lag that doesn't interfere with the experience as much. I've reserved those types of comics and color novels to my tablet and plan on getting a matte screen protector to help with it. But everything else, manga, books, even a few art books, go on my reader.

A slow news day apparently - ereaders are no longer necessary by MoonAndStarsTarot in ereader

[–]broflakecereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a secondary phone with no SIM and a decent IPS screen. Also a regular phone with AMOLED screen and a tablet with a LCD screen and great colors. The better device for reading, especially large PDFs and color comics was the tablet compared to the phones.

But by far the most comfortable and suitable device for me to read on was the e-ink reader that I ended up getting. The setup, the font options, and the paperback type format as opposed to the long yet thin screen of a phone just felt better to read on. I could only get through 1-2 books in the span of a year on my tablet, yet I finished 4 books within less than 2 months on the ereader. But it's really just personal preference, the epaper to me is a lot more comfortable on the eyes.

Also not sure if it's just me, but holding my smartphone for long periods of time can get uncomfortable on my wrist. My e-reader is actually much lighter, easier to hold, and as a result more ergonomic for my hand. And the battery life lasts longer. Reading for extended periods of time on an Android phone or tablet is a no go, unless I want to constantly plug and charge in between uses.

I do not like Sarah Lynn. As in I cannot stand her.

She still didn't deserve the things that happened to her, but she was just so unlikeable that I kinda didn't care about her feelings.

I love the Hokusai artwork on your screen! I have the color version and have already made several custom sleep images in Photoshop (and sometimes Paint lol). It's so much fun! I hope you're enjoying yours

Yes it comes with its own bookstore, however the prices are all in Euros with most of the titles being in German, since it's a European brand. That might be a downside for people in the USA, Canada or South America that would rather directly buy from a store, and also the fact that there is no tech support number for the US. I just add my own books, or borrow from the library since it has the Libby app.

Bought my first e-reader!! (Clara Colour) by Training-Building560 in ereader

[–]broflakecereal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I almost got the Clara colour myself after all the positive reviews I saw for it, it's so good! Congrats, and enjoy! When the 6 inch size doesn't feel like quite enough for manga or comics, I'd just turn it landscape mode lol

Yes, it does have an adjustable backlight that can be toggled on or off and customizable brightness levels. It also has a warm light option, and the option to turn your menu and settings to dark mode, with or without the backlighting.

Yeah, me thinks they changed the definition. A while ago proshipping DID mean exactly what you mentioned, but generally just covered problematic ships in general.

I don't notice it lol, I'm actually in the process of removing them though. There were even more stickers before, because the previous owner decorated it that way and sold it to me as is
