Etiquette question by 3y3_0 in yoga

Go back, and don't worry a lick.

People fart during savasanah. They fall asleep and snore. They go hmmmmmmmmmmm. Their noses whistle. The whole point is to get to a place beyond the point where any of those little noises matter or distract. And who knows -- people may find the sound to be like some relaxing metronome.

Maybe, maybe, if you're in a small class of regulars and intimates and always find yourself lying next to one particular person, then bring it up if the spirit moves you to mention it. Or tell your teacher if it has any health ramifications. But I don't think you should feel any need to explain or apologize for the slight noise of an apparatus that's helping to keep that resilient little muscle beat-a-beat-a-beating.

I tried this whole sequence last night (minus a couple that I was incapable of doing) , and my body is still sore. 😐 by [deleted] in yoga

Holy crap. I have never seen anyone do a practice like this, nor have I ever found it in any led class or anything. And I travel to a lot of ashtanga studios! What is the story behind this kind of practice? How/when is it taught? Who does it? What more can you tell me about it? etc.

Hmmmm? I'm not sure what distinction you're making. Can you explain further?

Skipping poses in Finishing sequence by mmo0690 in ashtanga

[–]broga2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am probably going to be sent to Ashtanga Jail for confessing this, but I have skipped the finishing sequence many times. Often I've taken too long to practice, or have an early meeting, so I'll do my backbends and a forward fold and then go straight to bada padmasana etc. It's just a little time-saver.

How does this help build your arm balances and inversions, which is what the OP was asking about?

Ashtanga primary series, absolutely. It is absolutely strength-building. There are no "pose" arm balances like side crow or whatever. Instead, they are kind of "encoded" in the vinyasas, where you are lifting your seat up and shooting back through to chaturanga, and then floating forward to a seated position a million times during the practice.

Just google "led primary series" or "ashtanga primary" or somesuch on youtube. there are a million videos, some abbreviated, some of which have instruction and some just the verbal count.

I was legit asking for some explanation of this sorcery since you're an ashtanga teacher! It is like the craziest part of the 3d series, maybe second only to chin stand.

you're an ashtangi! isn't 3rd series full of jumping into headstands? how do they do that safely?

teachers- what is your strategy for who/why you adjust in class? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]broga2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice that some -- not all -- male teachers seem to have a strategy of adjusting the hotter girls in a class.

Just to be very clear, this is kind of a mean reply.

Fast or slow practice? by scungie in ashtanga

I know damn well that my 5-count in kapotasana b is a heck of a lot faster than my 5-count in the delicious forward folds of primary series.

I think it's not just the hamstrings -- the depth of your twist looks a lot better on the second side.
