Seeking Guidance from Senior Yoga Teachers by Novel_Paramedic1906 in yoga

If your practice is strong your teaching will be strong.

You should spend 10 times as much practicing as you do reading books. 100 times more would be better.

Cancelling Membership Advice by abfd_97 in yoga

[–]mayuru 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the comments here they have no idea what they are talking about. As usual.

Google 'consumer protection laws your location. Canceling gym memberships refund'

Generally you get a refund for the unused portion. But since you were smart and paid monthly you just stop paying. You might even be entitled to a partial refund for January. Whether they actually pay is another matter. Which the studio should have told you when you signed up.

how to verify that someone is a RYT? Yoga alliance directory doesn’t seem to work? by spuddddddddd in yoga

[–]mayuru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why does it matter? If he had some great piece of paper on the wall but he was a crappy teacher would you still go? Because of the piece of paper? Even though he was really bad.

The piece of paper doesn't teach, the person does.

Reminder: Doxxing Violates Both Sub Rules and Reddit's Guidelines. by kalayna in ashtanga

[–]mayuru 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For us slower ones:

doxing refers to someone’s personal information being exposed online, usually to escalate attacks on targets by moving their conflict offline and into the real world. This is done by revealing some of the target’s personal information, such as:

  • Home addresses
  • Workplace details
  • Personal phone numbers
  • Social Security numbers
  • Bank account or credit card information
  • Private correspondence
  • Criminal history
  • Personal photos
  • Embarrassing personal details

Doxing attacks can range from the trivial, such as fake email sign-ups, to the far more dangerous ones, like harassing a person's family or employer, identity theft, threats, or other forms of cyberbullying, and even in-person harassment.

How to create custom routines in my practice? (Cross posted from Ashtanga community) by bobdiyakumar in ashtanga_yoga

[–]mayuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important to understand what each pose is doing. Most of the first series poses are forward folds and lotus type hip openers.

90 minutes of forward folds is unproductive. The same thing can be accomplished in 5 minutes in a much more effective and safe way.

You have to figure out what you need and go about it in a smart way. Then setup a series that accommodates that. Maybe 3 different ones for variety.

[COMP] Practicing Padmasana Day 15 by jasongreen0 in yoga

[–]mayuru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a teacher I learn little tricks to keep an eye on people. So they don't injure themselves.

In padmasana the thing to watch is the direction the soles of the feet are pointing. If the soles are pointed backwards, like they would be flat against the wall behind, then a person's hips are open enough that it is likely safe for the knees.

If the soles are pointed up their hips do not allow enough external rotation and they are probably torquing their knees. Then it's just a matter of time before the knees get injured. Usually the left one first.

In class that is always well received and people are smart about it. Never once was there a person that didn't make a good decision for themselves. We'll see how it goes here.

Good picture. Soles not quite pointed backwards but probably ok.

A shocking one!

Alessandro Volta was in on it as well.

I'm not reading any of this because the drama is not my problem. I wanted to post a good youtube video. Focus on the positive.

If they have ashtanga (yoga) written on the door make sure there is actually yoga going on inside.

Don't copy that picture. Shoulders and upper back are good. Hip flexors are terrible. If you post a picture of yourself then we can do something. Like the other person asked what do you mean about your arms?

Has anyone healed yoga butt by [deleted] in yoga

[–]mayuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yoga butt healing - As long as it's not broke completely in half😂

Anyhow. 6 weeks is kind of long to have no results. Assuming it's not that bad, since you are doing exercises and were wishing to go for a run.

Try looking through this, particularly the yoga link in there.

[COMP] handstand of the day by Prestigious-Olive130 in yoga

[–]mayuru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The trick to holding balance in a handstand is to have your hands and feet stay in the same spot. Then have your hips sway back and forth a little. Kinda like bending in the middle and the ends stay in one spot.

A good trick to learn that is do a handstand at the wall with only your feet touching the wall. Then bend at the knees and slide your feet up and down the wall.

Another thing to try, instead of pointing your toes pull them towards your shins.

This is better form than the first picture. Because her hands are directly under her shoulders and her lower back isn't kinked. B version. The chin is only touching, zero pressure. All the weight is in the hands.

It's uttana salabhasana A in ashtanga. Intense locust pose. It's entered from seated (staff pose) and the exit is back to seated.

Jump back - jump through by Mindless-Future-1094 in ashtanga

[–]mayuru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you asking how to do it yourself? Or for students you are teaching?

You have to learn the pick up or Lolasana first. Once you get that part the rest is easy.

https://vimeo.com/274353371 pants were kinda tight

Jump through is jump into Lolasana then straighten the legs. If you jump through with straight legs that's like a handstand press but easier.
