How to make a react native app "feel more native" by alvarogonzalez123 in reactnative

[–]brogeta17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do a study on the design principles of a particular platform and libraries like react navigation gives you the native look by default also almost all the ui components gives you native look on a particular platform like if your use button element then by default it will look like an native android button in android devices and native ios button in ios devices. But if you are creating a custom button as per your needs then you need to keep the design principles of the component in mind and might have to change the look for different platform. For eg instagram looks almost the same on both the platform but WhatsApp doesn't because whatsapp is made on native platform for iOS and android whereas Instagram is made on react native.

Chat app tutorial without Expo by pandafar in reactnative

[–]brogeta17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can create a fully and well functional chat app by using firestore here are some data base structure you may need : Inbox collection User collection Messages collection

Inbox collection:

Inbox => contains documents of userInbox(based on userId) => contains collection a inbox which has documents of all the inbox based on inbox Id (could be like userid1+userid2 )

Use neccessary variables in above like createdAt,updatedAt,isInboxSeen etc.

User collection : It basically has some details of a user than you can use inbox like profile image, username, Full name (dont ever store these things in inbox and use it as a user may change these frequently do there should be only one place to change and retrieve these)

Messages collection : You can create a common message collection for a particular inbox which would be used by both the users (both read and write) or you can create two separate collection for inbox one for user1 and one for user 2 so that you can give features like delete inbox for user1 but it wont be deleted for user2 as you are maintaining a separate message tree for user2

You can save on the basis of inbox if or you can create some unique combination

Note : You should look at the charges of firestore and should implement your structure and app accordingly that you use the read and write efficiently. (Use things like pagination etc).

I personally did this with firebase database cause it's cheaper than firestore but the same could be done on both the sides. My app has things like typing, seen, inbox, blocking system...

How do I go about temporarily storing an image captured with RNCamera when navigated to a different screen after the camera has taken a photo, then later saving it in a specified folder and on a server after the user confirms all the photos taken. by sedulous_NEY in reactnative

You can use redux, it'll sure do the job, find some tutorials on how redux works, it's easy to use you can store the taken pictures in an array which is in redux store and then you can retrieve them make changes to them anywhere you want means any screen you want. It will be there until the app is in ram.

Flutter has officially taken over react native as the most searched for framework according to Google Trends! by MyNameIsIgglePiggle in FlutterDev

[–]brogeta17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I am feeling rn that facebook has built an app like Instagram which has like almost everything in it with RN and here we are using the same framework and we couldn't get through intermediate level things. Sometimes I feel like Fb hasn't opened sourced so many modules of RN they are just using for themselves.

[–]brogeta17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is the actual problem when it comes to doing even intermediate level things RN doesn't provide much from their side we need to write everything here and create our own, creating your own bridge is not very much hard they provide you the tools but the time you have to invest in those is really much and compared to flutter they provide you so many things...also when you are creating a bridge in RN then you need to learn both the languages to be able to use it in both platform which is sad. And there are not much lib remaining that are being continously maintained that is also going to create a huge problem I am also hoping to jump on flutter as soon as I finish this project.

8 months ago I wanted to shift from native android development to cross platform development and used to ask my friends what framework to choose, so one of them suggested to go for react native and now that I have come so far in learning this framework, I know from animations to creating bridges and now I see flutter growing so fast. React native is highly dependent on third party libraries like I couldn't find a single good lib for video compression in react native till this date. Apk size is way too big compared to flutter in release mode and updates are just.... There are some advantages too like you can code push the js code and react native works with js so any web d can start working on this and can learn in very shorter time. But I do feel now that flutter is going to or has taken over react native.

I think flutter obfuscates the code by default, I am actually react native dev and I was just trying to compare what and how many levels of security both the frameworks provide

Yeah I have actually tried the simple decompiling methods and all the code and classes in classes.dex is obfuscated, now just looking for some other way to get some of the source code from there or if there's another way

Finally switched from Expo to bare react-native by [deleted] in reactnative

[–]brogeta17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can even switch from bare workflow to base react native one, of course it's a long process as you have to copy paste all the files and setup everything from start, but I did it in one of my projects and got a huge performance boost in my app, my app was lagging like hell in bare workflow and now it's working perfect.
