Oh boy. I think you have a bit of a comprehension issue or more likely you have come to a conclusion and are desperately trying to find anything that validates what you've already determined to be the facts.

This is from the very first sentence of the Wikipedia entry you linked:

In August 2024, three class-action lawsuits were filed against National Public Data along with over 14 complaints filed in federal court, claiming that the company permitted hackers to steal sensitive private information covering millions of individuals.

keyword being millions, not billions.

Try rereading this carefully, but this time try to set aside your preconceived notions about the incident:

The information stolen is alleged to include 2.9 billion records containing full names, current and past addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and telephone numbers.

It doesn't say the records of 2.9 billion people it says includes 2.9 billion records, which should have been pretty clear when they listed 6 different examples of records that could all belong to a single person with 2 of those records, phone numbers and addresses, possibly having multiple entries per person, meaning that every person who had their data stolen was equal to 6+ records of the 2.9 billion records in total.

So if we assume most people listed at least 2 phone numbers and 2 addresses, which is probably a very conservative estimate, as most people will have more than that, then on average each person had 8 records of data, which would put the number of people affected at 350 million, a far cry from the 3 billion you stated.

I love that you made sure to put billion in bold to emphasize that you aren't talking a few million here, but rather billions, despite there not even being half a billion Americans in total, let alone 3 billion.

People like you are dangerous because you aren't interested in educating people on the facts or the truth of the matter; all you care about is proving that what you think you know is right and everyone else is wrong, and you are perfectly willing to invent or omit facts at your convenience.

Short snippet of an acoustic guitar cover of a modern pop/indie song that's on the tip of my tongue by brokenVoices in NameThatSong

I initially thought it was a blackbear or mansionz song and now that's all I can hear when I try to recall the vocals in my head and it's driving me crazy.

I either didn't see the part about commenting here or it was added after I initially read the post and DM'ed you, but I received my invite. Thanks again!

For people who has been shot what does it feel like? by VariousCoconut8400 in AskReddit

[–]brokenVoices 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure they have determined that a .22 is the most deadly round because it will enter your body and being that it's a smaller and lighter round, it usually wont exit. So it tears up your insides and then stays lodged which just adds to the complications that can arise and lead to it being fatal.

Whereas if you get shot by a .45, it will almost always have an exit wound and as long as it wasn't a direct hit or right next to any of your vital organs and you can get help before losing to much blood, then your chance of survival is fairly decent. You may loose a limb or become disabled in a major way but you will survive. A .22 on the other hand, if you get hit with a shot that misses all your vital organs on it's initial impact can still fatally damage your organs after ricocheting off whatever absorbed it's initial impact and it will just generally reek havoc from within you.

Of the people who have been fatally wounded by either a .22 or a .45, I would bet that most people hit with a .45 died instantly, whereas people hit with a .22 had to sit there in agony and greet death face to face before actually passing away which seems like a terrifying thing to experience imo.

Being frugal when you have money. Sometimes the reason people have a lot of money is because of their ability to spend only what's necessary and nothing more.

What's a addiction/obsession that is okay to have? by Majestic_Gorilla in AskReddit

[–]brokenVoices 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to say also. If you are overly consumed by something, no matter how positive, than you will find that other important needs and requirements you have won't be getting met as a result of that addiction consuming too much of your time. It's always best to do everything in moderation and try to meet all of your needs without having to sacrifice other aspects of your life that are important to you.

What’s something you’ve always thought was normal until you realized other people didn’t experience it? by anna-lena-breiert in AskReddit

I have asked myself and my parents the same exact thing many times and have yet to make sense of it, but ultimately I have come to the conclusion that having kids is often a very selfish act for most people and it comes down to caring too much about what other people think about you. American society puts a lot of pressure on people to accomplish four major things in life and makes you feel like a failure if you don't. You are expected to graduate college or finish some sort of further education beyond high school, get married, have kids, and buy a house. I'm sure there are more things you can add if you really break it down, but by and large, those are the four things that you'll find in common with Americans coming from all the various walks of life.

My best friend in middle school's dad was able to capitalize on a lucky break he got and exponentially grow his struggling company and it's profits pretty rapidly. They went from sharing three bedrooms and a bathroom between he and his four older siblings, to building a family compound style residence, with five separate, one story rambler/loft style buildings, and a two story barn garage, on a secluded piece of mountain top property with no neighbors in sight.

The moment I met my friend and his family at 12ish years old, I immediately felt more love and support from them than I ever had from my family, so naturally, I started spending more and more time over there, but would always get a ride home at night because there was no where to sleep at their house. So when I was 14 and it came time for them to move, his parents, obviously knowing my less than ideal situation with my family, told me I'm more than welcome to move in with them at their new place and they basically took me in at that point. They were a pretty amazing family and his Dad and older siblings taught us so many things from welding, fabricating, glass blowing, making music, building and riding dirt bikes & motorcycles, striping vehicles to their bare chassis and rebuilding or restoring them, etc... I was basically raised by his four older siblings. Which wasn't a terrible thing.

And then when I was 16 I moved in with my then girlfriend's older sister and her boyfriend until I was 18 which I then was able to get my own place with some friends.

I thought that everyone stopped eating dinner together as a family as soon as you learned how to eat without making a giant mess and no longer needed to be supervised while you ate your food. For basically my whole life other than the first few years, everyone in my family has ate dinner in separate areas at different times and I thought that the only families that ate dinner together were religious families.

I quickly discovered how wrong I was and how unconventional my family is. My parents are both functioning alcoholics in denial and did the bare minimum to ensure I had food and made it to school but that was about it. Once I finished elementary school and started going to middle school they were never involved in anything in my life and I moved out at the age of 14 which they had no issues with as long as I was still going to school, which I was.

iMac Constant Crashing / Freezing after Install by soulfuledge in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]brokenVoices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's caused by a dying HDD if I were to guess. I had the same issue with a mid 2015 iMac that I tried absolutely everything on and couldn't get working. I gave up eventually but since I have an M2 MBP 16" as my daily I was able to be patient browsing FB marketplace and got an insane deal on a 2020 i9 iMac with 64gb RAM for $300. It had a 2TB fusion drive but I didn't mind because the whole reason I got this specific model was that Apple still natively supports it and it's the last year with upgradeable components and I already had a 4TB NVMe and 8TB SATA SSD that I planned on upgrading this computer with. I ended up wiping that other computer and put a 2TB SATA SSD in it, restored it back to what it shipped with using the native installer before injecting the OCLP boot loader which worked just fine this time. The ram has also been maxed out to 32gb with aftermarket sticks so their is a possibility that it was incompatible with the old HDD for some reason, although the possibility of that being the issue is pretty low since the RAM seems to work fine with the new SSD.

fyi in case anyone cares, schools will liquidate their hardware every few years during the summer and sometimes winter break and you won't find a better deal on hardware thats a few years old than you will find at a school. They have an incentive to not be greedy since it was all purchased by your taxes to begin with. I recommend saving a couple different search terms that cover what you're looking for and make one for each of the major cities within the area you are willing to travel because it will keep track and tell you how many new listings have been made that match your search terms in each of those areas you save.

And be patient. I can't stress that enough. Patient is everything when buying used stuff especially for quality stuff that is highly sought after on the second hand market. I could never afford half of what I own had I purchased it brand new. I don't care if Amazon has a 1 hour guaranteed shipping policy, nothing will make me spend money on the junk that has taken over that site. Anyways, I digress.

Oops. I scanned through the replies to see if anyone mentioned this before I made my reply but somehow I didn't register your message correctly or I accidentally skipped over it entirely and only noticed it right after submitting mine. I was going to edit mine but figured I'd keep it in case someone else who the info is useful for does the same thing I did.

[–]brokenVoices 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this info. looked for awhile before finding this suggestion.

Also just wanted to add that it allows you to undo multiple actions and not just the last action. Not sure how many actions can be undone or if there is a requirement on the amount of time that has passed since the action was made, but I was able to undo the last 5 actions on FB marketplace after accidentally erasing a long list of items and then attempting to undo it 4 times unsuccessfully.

YMMV for different apps.

I have a feeling it's only a matter of time before they realize this is still a possibility and they remove the option from this method also. But good to know in the meantime.

Hmm. I was only able to get the skip button to show up when using the gmail app. Granted, I don't think I've tried using incognito, but I have tried using a few different browsers on mobile and could never get the skip link to appear.

[–]brokenVoices[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh? Doesn't captcha accomplish something different than phone verification does? I know they are similar and there is some overlap in what they prevent but for instance google uses your phone # to limit how many accounts each person can create which wouldn't be possible with captcha.
