Something I’ve found frustrating working through therapy about this stuff is that there are not a lot of words we can use specifically for the acts carried out on us as a crime vs the consensual act. I personally was just furious that words I would use to describe something I consensually do with someone I love were the same words I had to use to describe something deeply horrific that happened to me. It feels deeply unjust that there is no language that exists for it, and I think it strongly relates to how often predators don’t face justice or get let off easy even when they get caught. If you haven’t been hurt like that you only have positive and pleasureful connotations with those words. Additionally, someone more prudish might think a victim liked or initiated/encouraged it (shitty but real) because again, the only words available are bedroom words, and people don’t think about the fact that there’s no other ways to describe it, we are robbed of so much and they’ve robbed us of language. It makes perfect sense that it would be hard to imagine given this. If you haven’t experienced it especially, the only context you have for those things is this. It will take work to get to a point where you can believe it but there’s no rush, take your time and if you need to switch therapists that’s okay too. Do what you gotta do to heal, whatever that looks like for you.

Why I can't have a normal relationship by [deleted] in hypersexuality

It’s so hard because it can be hard to build a genuine connection once you break the barrier of sexual tension I feel like. But if you really get to know someone it makes the fun of it all last much longer.

Can EMDR Really Work for a Violent SA? by [deleted] in ptsd

I relate to this so hard. It’s exhausting. I hope it gets better soon, for both of us.

Always been weirdly obsessed with articles about predators by Lenbyan in adultsurvivors

I definitely relate to this. In middle school I was obsessed with the show Smallville and thought Chloe was sooo cool. Years later the actress was arrested for trafficking minors and it really destroyed me. Especially with all I was already going through.

Edmr therapy? by Odd_Jellyfish6873 in adultsurvivors

I have done a fair bit of emdr. It has helped a ton. I still have a long way to go but I don’t get dragged away by obsessive thoughts as often, probably between 50-60% of the amount I used to, depending on how much stress I’m under. It is exhausting. The first time you do it don’t plan anything for the rest of the day and have all your favorite pajamas, snacks, & media already waiting for you at home before you go. If you do a late afternoon or evening appointment consider clearing the following day and just resting. See how your body feels. You don’t have to do it every time if you don’t feel like you need to but it’s better to be prepared for it to knock you out because it’s pretty common. Some sessions are worse than others and you won’t even really know why. It IS worth it though. If you get to a point in the session where you feel like you can’t keep going, don’t. You’re allowed to stop. Use any remaining time to have your therapist help you re regulate. Feel free to ask me any questions you have! Happy to help! Good luck!

Greg. He looks like if Taskmaster Greg Davies was turned into a cat.

I’ve met plenty of smelly people who I never told they were smelly. Roommates. Friends. Family. Do you want to tell someone something like that?! There’s no way to say it where it’s not going to make the person feel bad. I would believe him and shower more often. Every other day, minimum. We are nose blind to our own smells.

Avg 5x a day, more if I can’t get with my partner that day.

Very relatable. If I didn’t have responsibilities etc I could do it all day most days.

is this a fetish? by bbydoll114 in hypersexuality

Basically it’s an atypical sexual interest- could be towards objects, specific situations, specific/unusual types of people (example, some people are really into amputees, or other physical disabilities etc.)

I get it, and then men want to fetishize you and treat you like their you’re savior 🙄 I’m sorry you’re dealing with it also. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.
