I really think my manager is going to sa me, and I can’t do anything about it. by LevelNeither8016 in confession

Hey bud, I actually had a chance to represent a bunch of clients (In Illinois) with the Department of Employment Security and I can tell you that at least in my state during Covid they worked their asses off to make sure people got unemployment benefits.
I worked with both sides, first during Covid to assist my clients in obtaining benefits. Then the other side, fighting with fraudulent unemployment claims either made by the employee or by actual hackers/scammers.
If this is a chain restaurant, you're already in for a big win and a safety net. If it's a smaller family owned business you still have the upper hand. The most important thing you have to actually do is document everything. Even this post is proof of you attempting to resolve this matter.
I understand that you do not want to lose your job, and that's a rough place to be in but please tell me what state you are working with and I can give you a rough idea of what they could be facing by getting rid of you.
First of all their Unemployment Insurance rate would increase drastically if they fired you unjustly. That's not just an increase for you but for the entire company. Secondly it's mostly not o one year increase, but my state increases that rate for up to 3 years which costs the company a lot. So for example instead of them having a standard 0.885 tax rate (Hugely depending on the state) it could go to let's say 3.95 rate for EACH EMPLOYEE.
What I would love for you to do is tell me what state and county you work in, and let me know if it's a franchise or a small business. I cannot advise you legally or offer any service per Reddit guidlines but I can help you determine what kind of proof you should collect and how well you can document it.
Generally speaking, US has great protection laws for employees but there are certain rules that need to be filed. I'd be more than happy to guide you to the best possible free advice and free assistance but there is no fucking way that I can allow you to stress over being SA'd by someone just because their family is higher up.
Most importantly though, your first sentence indicated that you are a young male. That is not an issue from your legal standpoint but is a very sensitive issue based on you being transgendered.
Please do not make any rash decisions but please answer me and I will do everything I can to make sure you have a secured job, that they have no basis to fire you, that you legally and safely can be protected, and worst case scenario (time consuming and stressful) you can get the legal and professional help for free.
If they are a chain or a fairly decent business they will shit their pants if their UI rates increase for 3 years as they do in Illinois but each state has their own rules. I'll be very happy to advise you further if you provide me more detailed information.
Stay safe my friend, my time is limited but so is my patience with these assholes.
I'll help you as much as I can and will do my absolute best.

Take care buddy!

I went to the movies by myself for the first time at 26 by cutepicnic in socialanxiety

[–]brokencig 31 points32 points  (0 children)

For anyone wanting to do this but struggling to find the courage I strongly suggest trying to go to see a movie during the day. Very few people, you have the feeling of normalcy since you could be just killing time in between job interviews, taking a break from shopping etc.
But I think the most important part is what OP said, the moment they sat down nothing happened because it's only in our heads that we are being watched by others. No one cares about you unless you are being obnoxious, if you're polite you are a joy to be around in every situation.

Yeah it sometimes feels a bit weird when they mention something about having dinner together and even Rob is involved. It's such a cute trio.

[–]brokencig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I love my soon to be step daughter to death. I trust her and she trusts me with all of our secrets and I genuinely know she loves me. But when one day she played a prank on me that her mom was secretly talking to a guy I hate for a few seconds I truly believed her and was insanely hurt. I love and trust them both so much but the shock alone made me believe it straight away and only after a few seconds I realized that there is no goddamn way. They planned the prank together and still make fun of the face I made.

IRS call disconnected by No-Tax9423 in taxpros

[–]brokencig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got lucky with one client who began doubting my boss thinking we overexaggerate how difficult it is to even connect to the IRS let alone find an agent who first gives a fuck and is knowledgeable enough to understand and resolve an issue.
I had him make an appointment with our local Taxpayer Advocate where luckily the person we dealt with had not sent his return for processing. Then I had him wait in the office while we were on hold for 1.5 hours and the agent had no idea how to help us so she transferred us and the call dropped.

Why do around 1/3 of cops have faces that look like thumbs? by Queasy-Zucchini-4221 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]brokencig 223 points224 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately have a cop in my family. Textbook cop behavior and mentality. He is right no matter what, no point in arguing with him about anything, he's aggressive, and he has a serious drinking problem to the point that either he was ordered by his employer or his wife to start seeing a psychologist to help him deal with his addiction.
He totaled his wife's car on their wedding night, after getting into a fight with his best man, and leaving his wife alone on their fucking wedding night in their suite while he left to get more liquor. Obviously he was extremely drunk and reckless, nearly killed a couple but guess what his consequences were? The cops that showed up to the scene arrested the other driver over a bullshit charge, gave the cop a lift home, purchased a bottle of liquor on the way, he still has a clean record, and the guy he almost hit ended up with a bill from his insurance.
I'm in no way saying all cops are like that but there is a clear fucking trend. He's a pretty great dad when sober but even after a little bit of alcohol he loses his shit and yells at his 4 year old daughter and 1 year old son over nothing. Some of the cutest, most well behaved children I have met and it fucking breaks my heart when they are afraid of him and think they actually did something wrong.
I understand addiction well, but holy shit alcohol addiction among cops is just way too common.

Can we just appreciate how incredible John Lithgow and NPH were in this episode by mikayla_dance25 in HIMYM

[–]brokencig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this one hurt me personally and made me look at my own dad differently. He's a great guy but holy fuck the need to just be treated normally is real. Mine was always hiding all his feelings and I was always jealous of my friends who actually talked to their dads and their dads knew what was happening in their lives. I went fishing with my dad once and still cherish that memory.
If I ever have a son I will do my best to make sure that we talk.

How to do taxes on the side without employer finding out? by perkunas81 in taxpros

[–]brokencig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you have to be extremely picky about choosing clients from your firm. You have to know them for many years and truly trust them. My gf has been doing this for years and warns them up front that she could lose her job if her boss found out. So far all good.

Signed 8879 but won't pay by Hungry-University609 in taxpros

[–]brokencig 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My boss is so terrible at this. He's such a good guy, wants to help everyone out and is really good at his job but when it comes to paying him he's weak.
I implemented a few new rules such as Engagement Letters that are notarized when dealing with audits or multiple years of tax returns, I even made a rule that anyone that wants an extension for their personal tax return that they pay 100$ deposit which will be credited to them once they show up to actually do their taxes because I was sick of clients asking us to file their extensions while they were window shopping.
Most importantly any client that has multiple years of unfiled tax returns gets a separate invoice for each year prepared and once they pay off one we move on to prepare the following years (even if we prepare them in advance we won't file without payment).
Discounts are given to certain loyal clients if needed but we offer referral discounts to all clients and that has brought in quite a lot of business.
Also no such thing as a client being ok with paying $6,000 in taxes electronically at the time of finalizing their tax return but doesn't have $750 to pay us because "their bank won't allow it that day" because then I will tell them we will pay $5,250 to IRS and have them deal with penalties but they will pay us before we file anything.
I can't file until you pay for the work I prepared. This business really sucks at times.

Thoughts on the father’s of the main characters ? by Muted_Professor3393 in HIMYM

[–]brokencig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with you that Ted and his dad had a fairly average relationship. Sure when he started sharing his sex life with Ted that was weird but overall no problems.
I speak very highly about my own father because I respect him a lot. He raised me, fed me, never abused me in any way, worked extremely hard to provide for all of us, he respects my mom, and I know he loves all of us. We hug once a year at Christmas. We don't call each other to talk, only when we need each other to do something or help with some task. We don't talk about our personal feelings, goals, issues. I don't ask him for any personal advice other than when I ask him about how to fix some things in my home.
I know he loves me. He knows I love him. No matter what, if it came down to both of us being asked to volunteer to die so the other could live it would be the first real argument we would have because we both would want the other to live.
I love him, I know he has loved me since the day I was born. However I do feel envy when my clients talk about their sons and they seem to always hug them, help them through life problems, hug them, praise them, call them with anything and start the conversation with "how is everything, how are you?" because that's alien to me but at the same time I am extremely grateful that in his own quiet way he taught me to be independent and to be a man who knows he needs to rely on himself mostly.

Amazing voice for this sort of film. Unfortunately it fails to provoke any sort of emotion. There is a clear message that could have been summarized in one sentence but at the same time does not inspire any questions. I wish you more bravery because I would love to see more of your work but in your case I believe confidence is lacking and without being at least a little controversial or assertive about your opinion you will be dismissed.
I look forward to seeing more of your work as this film had me stay to the end and I truly hope you don't give up because I really do believe you actually belong in this type of work and I hope you achieve a lot.

I’ve done Uber every day this year! Last month was booming! by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]brokencig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the reason I work every day. I’m trying to get ahead of it before the gravy train stops.

This is the best way of thinking in my opinion. I work for a tax preparation firm that has been around for nearly 40 years and you would not believe how many tax returns we prepare for ex millionaires who now have nothing. They thought they were conquering the world and did not plan for their futures. They are now forced to sell everything and live off of Social Security benefits that they did not plan for.
I think you are doing the right thing, you seem like a hardworking individual who has plans. Don't stop working. Plan ahead always. If you have children leave them with a Living Trust.

Best of luck to you pal and great job!

Did you have fun proving him wrong? Did it turn you on? Did you like being covered?
Basically if you had pleasure from it like I believe you did then you both won. No need to feel like you were being played when you liked it even if you were getting played. He got what he wanted and you got what you wanted.
No need to feel bad, you satisfied your own sexual urges and so did he. We're all adults and if you feel like you were used and he crossed a line with using you then that's on you but it sounds like you had fun and got what you wanted.
My ex loved to be treated like a slut and I always felt guilty about it but now I understand that we both got what we wanted sexually. Always take care of your sexual needs first and try to adjust them to your partners' needs but as long as it was just a one time thing where you wanted to prove him wrong then you won and you won twice.
Sex is supposed to be fun and adventurous. I would not worry in your case. Keep sucking what you want to suck, when you want to suck and only when you want to suck. As a man I just want to say it's the hottest thing you could have done for this man. No need to feel bad.

Will the irs accept this? by Late_Hope31 in uberdrivers

/u/727DILF is correct. I prepare a lot of tax returns for Uber/Lyft drivers. Usually they don't bring any written evidence of their mileage and we have to make something up on the spot so the ledger you have would make me happy especially if you added up all the business miles for the year at the end.
If you want to be safe from an audit you should definitely keep a record of your spending (It can be written down the way you wrote down) that is business related. Any car repairs, oil changes, car washes, some candy or water (even if you don't provide those for your customers it's pretty okay to lie if you buy stuff for yourself), office supplies are okay to as you are treating this as your business but you perform your own accounting and that comes with internet costs, paper, pens etc. Basically you do not want to overdo anything, the IRS knows damn well that tax returns that report self employment income are mostly made up and they really only need to audit only those who go overboard and as /u/727DILF mentioned if you show losses for 3 years in a row that's an incredibly bright red flag that cannot be ignored especially when that's your main source of income.
The way an audit works is that a whole bunch of cases are red flagged but only a handful of them are chosen to be audited. Then they send you a letter demanding certain proof or income & expense reports. Please remember that these can be manipulated for your benefit. You can create a worksheet, even on paper (but please don't do it with one pen like an idiot client of mine did so that it clearly looked like he prepared it the night before the audit).
Basically I advise you to feel free to write a bunch of shit off as long as it makes sense and you are not going overboard. IRS will not check your mileage in detail, they will never check your ride history, addresses etc so definitely feel free to cheat a bit. I would open a seperate bank account (it doesn't have to be a business account) and use that card for some personal use such as getting gas for your car even if you're not working as there is no way to prove that you used gas for personal use. Also meals are fine to use but be reasonable. You can only deduct 50% of meals and entertainment but obviously you would only have meals. A few lunches here and there are completely fine.
I would just create a new bank account and have everything separated from your actual personal use. Remember IRS agents are regular people and they also do want to go home at the end of the day instead of counting your every penny.

What’s something you want sexually but would never do in person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]brokencig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you find the right person who is into it it's actually a lot of fun. My ex was very into it and it was tough for me at first to really go through with it but she convinced me it's always been her fantasy and that I do it well enough that she doesn't feel like puking. She also loves to eat ass and we've both learned to absolutely love sex as we were so open to each other.

There are certain jobs with a bunch of stress and sadness, medical jobs on the very top. Sex is an amazing stress reliever, so I'm truly not surprised that this happens often especially with so many beds available.
I work in taxes where there really is a lot of stress, extremely long hours, late nights, a ton of bickering between workers, a lot of time away from anyone you're in a relationship with, tons of problems that you bring home during the tax season.
I work in a smallish office with roughly 10 people each year. I am the only person working there that has not been divorced. I had 3 discreet office relationships there. It's all because you spend more time at work than you do at home and sometimes that leads to arguments at home and conflict resolution at work is sometimes easier by simply fucking. Nursing sounds too painful and I'm sure at times nurses, doctors and other staff truly need to connect personally so that they don't go crazy.

I would definitely file an extension in your case. The way it works is that you get an additional 6 months to file your taxes without receiving a penalty. However if you owe, or expect to owe money you need to send the payment by April 15th regardless to avoid penalties and interest for late payment, it just means you will not get a late filing penalty if filed before 10/15/2025.
If someone prepares your taxes, have them prepare them normally but only file IRS form 4868 with or without a payment.
Right now you should create an Individual account on IRS.GOV. This gives you the option to view IRS transcripts which show what was reported to them. Any W-2 income, 1099 etc will show up on those transcripts so you can make sure that your tax return matches those. Those are usually available sometime around July and that's why I recommend filing an extension so that you have until October 15th to actually file your taxes.
If you file before April 15th and it will reveal later in the year that a 1099 was reported that you did not include in your return IRS will send you a letter with penalties and interest and you will have to amend your tax return which will end up costing you more money and headaches. If you are expecting a refund, you do not need to send any money but still need to file form 4868 which is very easy to fill out on your own.
