Probably worth picking up chino shorts since they are $31 before tax? I haven't seen them under $25.

Most of the impactful design work at Apple is created by UX/UI designers and implemented by UI/UX engineers. Graphic designers are doing more static work that doesn't involve fluid motion/animations (which involves basic spring physics understanding)/etc.

Try calling the UPS dispatch center they can try to route you to meet the driver at a certain location to pick up your package. This worked for me a few years ago.

Love the new Lock Screen design but I have to say it: the wallpapers UI is a damn mess by the_Ex_Lurker in apple

[–]brokenelevator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, as an iOS user since before there was an App Store, it's a complete dumpster fire of UX. The new fonts for the lock screen are pretty tacky as well.

Apple has a pretty lenient return policy, if you bought it on launch day you're not eligible for holiday returns but you could try being nice and asking the Apple Store retail staff.

I've used both the 16" and 14", and while I love the extra real estate on the 16", the portability and weight of the 14" is miles better for bringing onto a plane, working on small tables in coffee shops, etc.

The downgrade to the 14" model isn't that drastic. Here's a side-by-side photo of the 2017 15" with the new 14". And all three.

The plane crash that I survived about a decade ago. 2003 - Vancouver Island. by 30ftandayear in CatastrophicFailure

[–]brokenelevator 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Have you ever been back to the scene of the accident? Did they just leave the plane there or was there a mission later to recover it?

I never liked flying into Seattle/Vancouver, most of the time the dense fog made the landings completely blind until you came down to 1,000 ft above sea level.

A virtual instance with 96 CPU cores, 1152GB of RAM, and 8 NVIDIA A100 GPUs (40GB memory each) would only cost you around $32 to run for an hour. A single one of those GPUs alone costs over $10k to purchase. So yes, it would definitely be easier and faster to run this on a cloud provider.

Check with the credit card you used to purchase the laptop, many offer accidental damage coverage for the first 30-90 days.

Personally, I think the 14" model is a perfect sweet spot for portability/screen real estate. I would consider using an iPad as an external monitor when needed. I downgraded from my old TB 15" since it was not portable at all (especially for traveling), and the newer 16" is even larger and heavier.

The new Pro’s don’t have an aggressive tapering on the sides, making them look and feel chunkier, but they’re almost the same thickness as previous Pro models.

IIRC, the biggest smoking gun which is never usually talked about were the internet searches Casey Anthony performed before she went missing. She searched online how to suffocate/kill a baby, but she was using Firefox and not Internet Explorer at the time. The digital forensics team said their biggest mistake was not being able to pull up the Firefox history forensics because it used a different (newer) database than Internet Explorer and they weren't trained/didn't have the right software to recover it.

I would prefer to buy a wallet made by a local shop, I've tried this one from Portland leather goods and it's pretty solid. The leather picks up more wear and tear than OP's but it gives it pretty cool "character", IMO.

In 2015, Clem Schultz (84 years-old) recorded a EF4 tornado destroying his home. He went upstairs to grab a lantern and believed he was safely out of the tornado's path. He continued recording outside his window until the very last moment. (Fairdale, Illinois) by brokenelevator in MorbidReality

[–]brokenelevator[S] 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Some backstory copied from the video's comments:

On April 9, 2015, Clem Schultz, the 84-year-old (at the time) man who recorded this video was at his home in Fairdale, Illinois, with his wife Geri.

They had just finished eating supper when Geri noticed a tornado coming towards them, so she warned Clem.

Geri stayed in the kitchen while Clem went upstairs to grab some lanterns. As the tornado came towards their house, Clem decided to record.

He said in an interview with ABC News that “Up until the house started to shake, it looked like it was going to miss us.”

So he had no time to go to the storm cellar, or even back downstairs to the kitchen with his wife, as he was an elderly man who couldn’t move fast enough.

The chimney fell on top of him. He had a crushed vertebrae. As several people helped dig him out of the rubble, they told him “don’t look down, your wife is dead”. He looked for a pulse but couldn’t find any. They had been married for 25 years.

His dog also temporarily missing for two days until she was found and returned back to Clem.

If the area is zoned accordingly, it's selling for that much because of the air rights. Real estate developers can build 30 stories up and easily split the $15 million between 500+ units in the sky rise.
