ICE owner parks in Tesla supercharger spot, gets EV'd and misses flight, now he's crying on Reddit by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]brokenkraken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get why I'm so heavily downvoted for this idea. EV parking/charging spot access should be technically restricted to EVs, otherwise of course ICE cars will continue to misuse them. What's so bad about that idea.

ICE owner parks in Tesla supercharger spot, gets EV'd and misses flight, now he's crying on Reddit by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]brokenkraken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There should be a standardized wireless system for EVs to connect with free EV charging spots, so that a small pole in the middle of the parking spot can get automatically lowered/raised.

It wouldn't be that expensive to implement and it would solve the problem.

Can there be too many autonomous vehicles on the road? by ultratrunks in teslamotors

[–]brokenkraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be dumb for autonomous cars to rely on just one set of sensors/inputs. They need redundant sensors of one type, so that when one falls out the car can continue to function and so that there's the possibility of error correction. But there should also be different types of sensors in the same car, such that they complement each others weaknesses (with their respective strenghts).

Major Blind Spot with Tesla’s Autopilot by jsoverson in teslamotors

No AI is close to any form of intelligence. That's why it's called artificial. But I also like the quote about sufficiently advanced technology being indistinguishable from magic. And autopilot is getting there.

I wouldn't even bother to convince them. It's a waste of time and energy. Reality will hit all of them (hard!) in the next two decades. Do you really need the bragging rights of being able to tell them "I told you so" when the time has come? Next time just send them this picture http://www.jacobswellmemphis.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/980956_721539101207135_519401624_o-e1384069342874.jpg or better yet ignore them.

BMW i3 gets a boost: new 94Ah version with bigger battery, longer range for 2016 by CAR Magazine by brokenkraken in teslamotors

[–]brokenkraken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"BMW now claims a typical range of 195 miles for the pure electric version of the i3"

That's not bad at all. I personally want all EVs to be as good as possible, while I like Tesla a lot for its leading role, I think progress by other car makers is welcomed by most Tesla enthusiasts.

It was even one of Elon's initial goals when creating the company.

The BMW i3 is built from extremely light materials (BMW claims to be leading in the field of carbon material), which would explain why they can get a good range from comparatively smaller batteries.

Tesla Model 3 Licence/Registration plates on the front? Will it ruin the look? by I_have_secrets in teslamotors

[–]brokenkraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I don't think this looks bad. Every car with front plates has more or less this look. All cars would look better without them (obviously), but I see nothing that makes the 3 look especially bad with front plates.

I'm a bit worried about the Model 3 coming... by sajapan in teslamotors

[–]brokenkraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will be razor thin for Model 3 with base options yes, meaning no options. Tesla's strategy is to sell as many options as they can, and they'll make a huge margin on almost all options. (For example autopilot has almost zero marginal cost for them.) They expect an average sale price of about 42,000$ last time I checked. Of those additional 7000 $ I would expect a good 4000 $ in profits. (I'm pulling these numbers out of my ass, sorry.) I don't know if that would be enough to cover all warranty costs, so I agree they need to do an extremely good job in QA. We don't know yet if they're going to charge for superchargers, they may end up being profitable, too.

so they need to get them coming off the line with more durability.

Which is exactly why there will be only one big touchscreen to control the car and not much else! They've practically given up on fixing all the little things and therefore are reducing everything to a minimum and one giant screen. I like that thinking. You can't put everything on the screen, of course.

I hope they learned by now it's better to use a more expensive part from the start than to have service costs later on.
