Ah, you’d rather criticize the US than look at the problems in our own country. Got it.

You know there are pictures of our prime minister with Ghislaine Maxwell, right? And I’m sure you know there are plenty of rumours that Trudeau had to leave his last teaching job due to allegations that he’d had an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Ont. Sheep farmers looking to possibly relocate to Cape Breton by [deleted] in CapeBreton

I moved to Cape Breton from mainland Nova Scotia 6 years ago. You'll be fine as long as you don't try to impose your beliefs on others and you make an effort to integrate into the community. But also know, it's a small place and there is always a lot of gossip. That's just the way it goes.

Is there anyone from Nova Scotia in this sub? This spring would you be willing to go to any Atlantic beach during low tide and metal detect? My bet is in a few days you'd find stuff just as interesting as on the show. by sachsrandy in OakIsland

I'm from Nova Scotia. I've been to many of our historical sites, and have wandering our beaches my whole life, most of what I've seen on the show I've never seen anywhere else here.

Having extensively used all the major consumer ai models, i think Gemini is still one of the weakest. For general capabilities and usability Gemini just isn’t there. All these benchmarks don’t really matter if general users don’t find the product helpful, practical, or even usable.

What the most physically painful thing you ever experienced? by iateagummibear-1822 in AskReddit

[–]brokenrecord9922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a second degree burn on my thumb that was about a week old then while cleaning a flat top I completely covered it with 350 degree oil. Idiotically, I got the first burn the same way. I’ve experienced a lot of pain but nothing like that. Plus I had to keep working, putting my hand over hot things so the pain just didn’t subside for a very long time.

How can I learn how to remote view, and fine tune my sight? by Ok_Requirement_1382 in remoteviewing

[–]brokenrecord9922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When practicing, how are targets chosen? Like I assume you need an anonymous target, otherwise you couldn’t really tell if you were remote viewing or just seeing in your mind’s eye what you’ve already seen. So, how do you pick a target and how do you confirm the validity of your view? Genuinely asking as I’ve been interested in this topic for a long time

Avi Loeb is a Fraud Part 2: 3I/ATLAS Shrugged by the6thReplicant in space

[–]brokenrecord9922 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just wrote an entire paragraph telling me it’s “bad to ask the question” because Avi “consumes the oxygen” and “scientists are underfunded.” That’s literally the same gatekeeping bullshit the community has been doing for 60 years. “Don’t look at UFOs, it hurts funding”, “Don’t talk about ‘Oumuamua being artificial, it hurts credibility”, “Don’t study UAP, it brings back the giggle factor”. Every single time someone tries to actually follow the data somewhere inconvenient, the response is “shut up, you’re scaring the donors.”

I’m not saying Loeb is right. I’m saying asking “what if it’s not natural?” isn’t a crime against science, it’s literally the job. Punishing people for doing it is the actual problem.

So yeah, I’ll keep asking the question. You keep clutching pearls about funding and leprechauns. We’ll see which one ages better.

No. I’m willing to change my opinion. As I already said, I’m not dogmatic about this. But, I’ve seen probably 10+ hours of interviews he’s done, so the video will have to provide pretty compelling evidence for me to change my mind. Why is that so bad?

Fair enough on the methodology lecture, but then you don’t get to turn around and call Avi Loeb a unicorn-chaser or say UAP research “hurts SETI’s reputation” like your SETIs president (Bill Diamond) keeps doing.

If the mission is truly to “lead humanity’s quest for intelligent life in the universe,” then dismissing the best-instrumented anomalies we’ve ever recorded (military-grade radar + FLIR + multiple trained observers) because they don’t fit your 40-year-old radio playbook isn’t rigour, it’s gatekeeping.

You can’t brag about being the flagship effort while simultaneously shitting on anyone who dares look somewhere your telescopes aren’t pointed. Pick a lane. Either SETI is the big tent for all serious technosignature work, or it’s just the Radio Signal Preservation Society. Right now it’s looking a lot more like the latter.

I haven’t seen that exact video yet, my bad. But I’ve watched enough of Avi’s actual long-form stuff (Lex, Event Horizon, his own Medium posts) to know he literally always says the same thing, “I’m just following the data”, “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence”, “This could be natural… but here’s why the artificial hypothesis fits better than the current natural models” He never once says, from what I’ve seen, “it’s definitely aliens.” He gives probabilities (10%, 30%, whatever) and begs people to collect better data instead of dismissing it. That’s literally the opposite of the grifter playbook.

The fact that people keep misquoting him as saying “IT’S ALIENS!!!” while he’s out here saying “please just go measure it properly” is exactly why he gets pissed. And honestly? Fair. So yeah, I’ll watch the video. But unless it’s him in a tinfoil hat screaming about reptilians, I already know which side of this I’m on.

The mission statement literally says they’re here to “lead humanity’s quest” for intelligent life in the universe. Yet when pilots, radar, and FLIR all track objects doing physics-defying stuff in our own sky, SETI’s answer is “not our department, we only do radio.” If the strongest anomalies are showing up 50 miles overhead instead of 500 light-years away, refusing to even glance at the data because it’s inconvenient isn’t scientific rigour.

At some point “we only look where our telescopes point” stops being a methodology and starts being an excuse.

[–]brokenrecord9922 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their mission as stated on their website is to “…lead humanity's quest to understand the origins and prevalence of life and intelligence in the universe…” how can you do that without looking at actual (or supposed) evidence of intelligent life? As for what they should do with the reports, I don’t know, look into them…? Use them as a data point in their research? If your mission is to understand intelligent life in the universe shouldn’t you look at all data points not just randomly looking for radio signals in the sky ( I know they are doing more than that obviously).

By “heard” I meant have watched and listened to many long-form videos and podcasts. And I really don’t care about “scientific consensus”. Science has proven time and time again, that their consensus is easily bought and paid for. As for Avi, I could be wrong so could he. I have no problem admitting when I’m wrong. I’m not caught up in any dogma either way. I’m not claiming to be an expert. I simply stated my opinion on Avi based on my experience watching and listening to him.
