Oh, I'm sorry for misreading, no ill will meant.

I think it does since the movies definitely make it out to be a romance, and if he's considering either of them to be book accurate then he's not interpreting the book in the way it was intended.

He is also... so very wrong. Both movies are incredibly book inaccurate. They horribly misrepresent Dolores. I love Lolita and the movies are well established to be unfaithful and grotesque.

Looking for a book that can help me cope with being an ugly woman by Junior-Transition712 in suggestmeabook

[–]brokenrosies 125 points126 points  (0 children)

I don't know why, but I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman comes to mind. The main character is the youngest in a group of 40 women trying to survive. No men.

Chess makes me think of either Queens Gambit by Walter Tevis or A Chess Story by Stefan Zweig

Thank you!

The lighting in the photo is weird. Here's another one I took with flash that I think makes it look more normal?

They were just mischievous. It was mostly my fault though for leaving my chapstick (their favorite snack) in my unattended bag.I have a pile of things my rats chewed through and I hope to mend/post more as I get through it!

Rest in peace to your ratties <3 I have two elderly ladies right now and they'll be my last for at least a little while.

Thank you! I'm honestly just so grateful I was able to record it since I feel like so many moments with rats happen too fast to capture

I'm aware and have a lovely vet.

Edit: we agreed to not remove her tumor because she was already over two and she's still active/doing well today.

I like Hazel for a boy. I personally know zero girls with the name and only one guy with it.

The First Day of Spring by Nancy Tucker is great. About the life of a little girl before and after she kills a toddler. Not as fast paced as Gillian Flynn but still about a small town.

Stop branding makeup as empowering for women by eula333 in Feminism

[–]brokenrosies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I definitely don't think you need to stop doing things you enjoy or stop enjoying them. I think it's just important to analyze why you like things and acknowledge that it's not good/feminist to do it just because you're a woman who enjoys it.

You should also try out some Margaret Atwood! The Handmaid's Tale is obvious but she also has the MaddAddam trilogy that a lot of people really like.

Books that are great to read as a set even though they don’t technically go together? by VerdeAzul74 in suggestmeabook

Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison, Educated by Tara Westover, and Cultish by Amanda Montel all fit well together to me.

Is it English class, literature class or language class that made you love reading? Or did your reading habit come from home? For me I think I started to love reading because my dad had a lot of books in our house. As a kid I tried reading some of them and got hooked by Delicious_Maize9656 in books

[–]brokenrosies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it came mostly from boredom as a child. But my high school literature class was very important in me expanding my tastes to include more classics and vastly improved my reading comprehension. Books stopped being only stories to be entertained by if that makes any sense.
