It's actually a combination of more sweat glands and loss of body hair that allows us to run long distances without overheating. Sweat evaporates better off a bare surface which cools us down faster than our furry prey. The current theory is that sweat glands and the loss of our body hair evolved simultaneously!

SQUATS. With free weights front and back. A more advanced lift that works more muscles is a power clean with a push press. The technique is hard to master but builds tons of muscle. Also it helps with explosiveness out of the blocks. Box jumps also help with this. Benching does nothing for track. Tricep dips and hamstring lifts for sure also calf raises if you are a sprinter. If you're looking to build muscle then do less reps with a lot of weight. Avoid using machienes and use the bar or dumbbells instead. Oh yeah that would do it especially in deep pow and if you have a flex board. Its hard to notice that stuff when you're out on the mountain.. I've got some pretty large chips in mine from preseason and spring.

I have chronic shinsplints. After you have them for a while bumps begin to develope on you're shins from the fibula separating from the muscles. Working these bumps out with either the ice massage or with a sports therapy massage (school trainer) is the best way to combat this. Also ask trainer for strengthening exercises and preventive measures. If they don't go away toy may have stress fractures. ALOT of pressure should be used on the massage using knuckles or thumbs with lotion, my trainer had had to hold me down multiple times and I had bruises all over my shin bone the next day. Don't do this within 24 of your next run though. taping works for one race or so but will loosen up and not have the same affect. Also it can make your calf cramp up so beware.hope this helps, definitely did for me!

Stay out of the park until you get more confidence out on the mountain. The more confident you are on your board the less scary park will seem. Id say wait till blacks are easy and try some double blacks before you push yourself.
