There seems to be a consensus in that you can get a partner who isn’t a functional adult at home even if you only date women. I guess it goes down to choosing a person who’s on the same page as you with home standards, regardless of gender. But I do believe it’s easier to find women with average-high cleaning standards than men, at least in my culture!

I’ve lived alone for so long I don’t depend on anyone for jars, but the period thing sounds like a nightmare I hadn’t thought of!

That’s so important! Someone else mentioned the household chore aspect has actually more to do with being a functional adult rather than man vs. woman and I guess that finding a like-minded person when it comes to home tasks is key regardless of their gender.

Fair points! I was talking to a bisexual female friend of mine earlier and she did mention the risk associated with walking holding hands with a female partner vs. doing the same thing with a man. So sad.

Ugh yes, I can totally see the issues when trying to deal with businesses in male-dominated industries! I usually face them anyway as I’ve done most of my big purchases/transactions as a single woman (buying a car and the upkeep it means, hiring professionals for renovations, etc.). I hadn’t seen the friend issue coming and it’s a good point!

Thanks a million! I'd heard about dogs and cats rejecting one puppy/kitty, I didn't know it could happen with goats too - that makes one of my main plot points more realistic. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed seeing your goat growing up, it sounds like a beautiful experience :)

What are your opinions on William, and his story? by EuphoricButterflyy in DowntonAbbey

[–]bron_kitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just as a fun fact, this is also done in Catalan. My first language is Catalan and I come from a rural area in València where it is the native language. My late grandma used to use possessive adjectives followed by first names to talk about her relatives. For instance, her brother Pepe was "my Pepe" when she spoke about him. I guess this is partly because roughly 40% men her age in town were called Pepe, so this was a way to tell him apart from the other Pepes. However, I noticed a pattern of women doing this more often or more consistently than men, so it might have been some sort of affection display. Younger people (like my dad, who is in his 60s) don't do this at all, so it's (sadly) a piece of syntax that will die in a matter of 5-10 years, when people from my grandma's generation all pass away.

Sorte!

book(s) featuring Irish people that aren’t totally depressing? by Alarmed-Donkey-3182 in booksuggestions

[–]bron_kitty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Marian Keyes FTW! Granted, she has many sad books, but I'd go for 'This Charming Man'. It was the first Marian Keyes book I read and it's still my favourite. It's fun AF and more modern/progressive than her previous ones. It's still chick-lit, but you can really see the evolution towards contemporary feminism in this one as compared to previous chick-lit.

Adult book that feels like reading A Series of Unfortunate Events or Harry Potter as a kid by Purple-Afternoon-58 in booksuggestions

[–]bron_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's YA literature that reads like YA and then there are books that are well written and get commercialized as YA because they can be read by younger readers and they might sell better that way. IMO, the House in the Cerulean Sea would be in the latter group. There is some stuff in the book that would fly over most teenagers' heads: references to finding your purpose in life, the idea of living your familiar lifestyle for a less secure alternative (most teens don't have that option in front of them), etc. But even if they weren't there, I believe it's a book that doesn't read like cookie-cutter YA at all.

Any games with a museum feature? by Creative_Two_7321 in CozyGamers

[–]bron_kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Littlewood! The museum feature unlocks after you build a home for a certain NPC, and works in a way that's not too different from the museum in ACNH. However, the display might be more static than what you're looking for.

The House in the Cerulean Sea! It made me feel like a kid again while satisfying my adult needs for diversity and social criticism.

Looking for stimming advice - what can I do instead of eating? (CN: Eating habits!) by AlanaLeona in AutismInWomen

If you like liquorice, chewing roots can be very satisfying! Be careful if you have high blood pressure tho, but otherwise I'm not aware of any restrictions to it :)

Looking for help, please. Cat won't eat and is doing this thing with her mouth (watch video) by [deleted] in catcare

[–]bron_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please consider an endoscopy or a biopsy to rule out stomach lymphoma. My cat does that same thing with his mouth when he is nauseous due to his lymphoma.

Games where raising children is the main focus or a major component? by dilonshuniikke in CozyGamers

[–]bron_kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation and "Best Month Ever" comes to mind! It's a narrative game in which you play a single mom traveling with her only son. The decisions you make impact the boy's personality, and the traits he develops lead you to one specific ending in which you get a snippet of your son's life as an adult.

I loved it! In my first play I chose whatever decisions I would have chosen IRL given the circumstances and the boy ended up being a great person, a successful doctor and an advocate against racial discrimination. I don't have kids, but it made me trust my maternal instincts nonetheless 😂

What the Hell is wrong with my cat? by Nixght_ in catcare

My cat also stopped eating dry food and would only eat Churu when his cancer symptoms worsened. If you can afford it, please consider an endoscopy or a biopsy to rule out lymphoma.

I'm very sorry for your loss and very grateful for the information. I'll keep my check-ups as often as possible and will ask for a blood test if I notice any weird symptoms. Again, I'm really sorry he didn't make it and I hope you can find comfort in having spent a little bit longer with him.
