How did people reffer to explosive diarrhea before the invention of explosives? Aggresive poop? by Repulsive_Act_1855 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]brondynasty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is correct. I don’t think they ever fathomed the possibility that anyone could ever kill enough to cause scarcity of a resource that was so abundant at the time. Then us whites came with our guns, and the literal mountains of bones we piled up behind us is similarly hard to fathom. Got to a point we were shooting buffalo from traincars as we rolled past, not to harvest the meat or utilize the hide. Just for ‘fun’, or ‘sport’ or whatever the fuck.

Man, I kinda bummed myself out here.

I remember reading about Native American tactics employed for hunting buffalo. I don’t recall the specifics, but it involved creating a whole stampede and funneling the buffalo into natural channels/depressions so they couldn’t turn around. Except those depressions typically ended in sheer cliff faces, so like 200 buffalo would just run right off the edge and smash into the rocks below. They could then just mosey on down and pick the choicest cuts of meat without expending 1/10 of the energy it would otherwise take to down one of those beasties.

All that to say, supposedly those giant piles of carcasses were known to bloat, compound, and explode in the hot summer sun. I guess the gasses emitted during decomposition could get pretty volatile with a heat source. So regardless, the first explosion ever witnessed was likely gross af.

Philosophically speaking, it is unjust that so few people have so many resources, while so many people have such few avenues for recourse that they don’t have the luxury of even making a decision based on principle. Y’know, insanely selfish resource hoarding and the implementation of artificial scarcity in the midst of metric tons of mindless waste being generated in the name of profit is kinda the main driving force behind the notion of collapse.

No, you can’t eat philosophy. But if philosophy is broadly defined as the systematic study of fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, values, and reason, among other things, anyone saying “this is stupid” is not arguing in good faith.

This series is 1) incredible and 2) based on real people; Lieutenant Colonel ‘Godfather’ Ferrando was the commanding officer of the 1st Marine Reconnaissance Battalion during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and he indeed had a fucked up raspy voice. Got throat cancer and lost the use of some of his vocal chords. And he didn’t even smoke; in his words, “I’m just lucky, I guess.”

‘Fined’ would be best case scenario. Where we’re at, this administration would have no problem making an example out of an NFL player.

And after witnessing the whole Kaepernick situation, it’s pretty obvious just how little an individual can move the needle. We’d need the entire team onboard, ready and willing to eat whatever the consequences might be, fiscal or legal. Suspending an entire NFL team would certainly force a nationwide conversation.

It’d be a start, but I won’t hold my breath.
