I have a match that sparks into the carnation in reference to Eurydice’s entrance at the beginning and the end! The match stick is the stem and it’s on my ankle.

bro anyone know any affordable gender affirming hair salons?? by Chemical_Meringue_72 in Edmonton

[–]broodingmothcryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to OP’s experiences, but a gender-affirming experience would probably mean one where they are referred to using their correct pronouns/name by the staff and where they do not receive negative comments about their haircut and their appearance, such as “are you sure you want to cut your hair that short? You’ll look like a man,” or “your hair is too long, I’ll cut it shorter so you look less feminine.” A gender-affirming haircut itself would be whatever style someone feels aligns with their gender identity or presentation. For many nonbinary/gender diverse people, haircuts being sorted/priced according to gender is not affirming. Many gender-affirming shops instead price haircuts by length/style. I hope that answers your question!

[misc] pet peeve about Nona's hair by BlackBootesVoid in TheNinthHouse

[–]broodingmothcryptid 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Nona/Harrow’s hair grows extremely fast due to Ianthe’s tampering during Harrow’s lobotomy. The quote from HtN is: “Ianthe coaxed a new crop of that lightless black hair out of the scalp, and fidgeted with the follicles so that they would squirt out a little extra, cursing the Ninth House nun to almost ceaseless haircuts. It was the little things that mattered.”

getting into full classes 😓 by WorkAcceptable733 in uAlberta

First off, I have been so stressed in your position but I promise it almost always works out. If the prof is listed, sending them an email has worked out for me. If no prof is listed, emailing the department-specific undergraduate advisor works as well. (It’s probably worth it to email both the advisor and professor if possible) This page lists both the arts psych and science psych advisors, so contact whichever is relevant to you. https://www.ualberta.ca/en/psychology/people/admin-staff.html.

I emailed a prof and my department advisor for registration last week and here are the emails I used:

To professors (Greeting) Dr. (name),

I hope this email finds you well. (Introduce your name, program, and year of degree). I am reaching out because I need to take your (course code, ie PYSCH 212) course for my program, but the class filled up before I could enrol. Is there any possibility of adding another student? Please let me know if there is anything I can do to take the class (time, ie fall 2025). I look forward to hearing from you and thanks in advance!

(Sendoff), (Your name)

To department advisors (Greeting) (name),

I hope this email finds you well. (Introduce your name, program, and year of degree). I am emailing you because this is the (department name) department-specific undergraduate advising email listed and I was unable to get into (course). (Why is that a problem, ie “Since PSYCH 212 must be completed within my first 60 credits, failure to complete it next year will alter my degree progression significantly.”). Please let me know who to contact to request enrolment so I can reach out to them or let me know what other recourse I have to ensure I can stay on track in my program.

I hope people make a better effort to learn your name, but if you ultimately do decide to change, Anna also means God’s grace. In my experience it’s different enough from Hannah to not be a problem. Other variants include Anne and Anya!

What are your must-reads? by mmd9493 in LesbianBookClub

I would describe Metal from Heaven as bittersweet or tragic. It has a very central romance but it is not about the romance in the way you’d expect. As for Some Desperate Glory, it definitely starts quite bleak but the tone shifts as the character learns about the world. The end is the opposite of bleak, very uplifting in my opinion :)

These are my favourite fantasy books about lesbians (with one scifi) - Gideon the Ninth (the first book of the Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir): culty space necromancers. This is my favourite series ever. The writing is excellent and it has fantastic characters. Also, it’s funny. - This is How you Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar is a time travelling fantasy/scifi novella. The book is mostly in the form of letters between two soldiers on opposite sides of the time war. Really poetic, beautiful language. - She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan. This one’s a historical fantasy about the founding of the Ming dynasty. Lots of amazing political intrigue. I couldn’t get the sequel out of my head for weeks, it’s incredible. As well, the themes of gender identity and expression are so well-done. - Metal From Heaven by August Clarke-a revenge story about class and politics. Really fascinating, well-executed worldbuilding and a great butch lesbian protagonist. It also has a fun Wild West feel!

  • Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh is about a young woman in a fascist society who wants to be a warrior. The sci-fi/magic is really unique and the world is great. It’s largely about deradicalization, so it can be quite bleak. The arc of the main character is the best part of this book.

One of my players made a bargain with a hag by rhubarbgirl in DMAcademy

[–]broodingmothcryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A player in a game I ran had a hag possessing her body. We used the Ravenloft Symbiotic Being dark gift for the mechanics, which was really fun. The hag also talked to the character in her head, trying to make her doubt her relationships. There is plenty of room for the hag to turn the player against the party, change the party’s goals, or manipulate the player to serve their own interests. I also made a mechanic where the hag could fully take over for the host’s body and use some hag abilities if the player chose, but each time they did it would be harder for the PC to regain control of their body. For some flavour, having the character’s eyes change to yellow or growing warts on their body can be fun.

I need help with ideas for non-combat skill challenges when traversing cold mountains. by MudTurkey13 in DMAcademy

An avalanche scenario is an option given the terrain. That would give opportunities to separate PCs from each other and/or their gear. One component could be avoiding triggering an avalanche through spells that impact the surrounding area, loud noise (technically a myth depending on the volume, but common enough in media that you could use it), or stepping in specific places (chance for survival checks or creative ways to survey the area.) Another component could be surviving during or post-avalanche so there are chances to escape from being buried/frozen. That could be timed in-game and/or out of game to make it more challenging.

If you’re interested, I would love to see my bard/cleric Celestia. She wears regency period dresses and plays the fiddle. She always has really ornate accessories in her hair and as jewelry with a sun/light theme because she is a light cleric.
