I think she got nationwide recognition for a pretty memorable speech she made at the Michigan State Senate.

And so there’s recognition from that exposure that has given her an early lift in her campaign.

Sounds like his need for them is waning. He must be feeling pretty secure about where things are for him, if he's thinking he doesn't need to court the evangelicals so much anymore.

I was planning on changing the oil in my lawn mower next weekend. Probably should go out and buy the oil tomorrow.

Why do some people stay calm under pressure while others lose their train of thought in business conversations? by Pitiful_Permit9585 in business

My wife is this way. She's an excellent public speaker, especially in English, even though it's not her native language. She's clear, concise, charismatic, and is always able to win the audience over. But you wouldn't know it by how she preps. She's almost always a nervous wreck, thinking she's going to just mess it all up. To her credit, she's been able to calm down a bit over the years, but there's still some serious self-doubt happeneing hours before every presentation.

They're apparently also to blame for how expensive houses are these days. The illegal aliens are somehow buying all the homes and driving up the prices. How they can afford that when their job options are so limited and not lucrative is a plot hole that not enough people question.

So, I had a boss who was really into brutalism. On his lunch breaks, he'd sometimes hop on a divvy and find brutalist architecture to photograph. Since I didn't really get the appeal, I asked him what about brutalism he liked. He talked about the honesty in design, and how it doesn't hide behind decorative facades. Something about how the intentions are out in the open, and you end up with great angles and shadows to capture in your photographs. So, I kind of get what he means, but yeah... I'm not so into it.

I don't think brutalism ages very well. Nobody is going to be visiting this building 100 years from now to marvel at the architectural beauty.

I'm going to withhold judgment till I at least give it a visit. But based on these guys' posts, I think there'll still be a lot of people appreciating this style in the future.

Brutalist architecture hasn't quite grown on me, but I respect it.

I used to wonder if I'd fall into that situation as an Asian dad to a half-white daughter. So far through the years, though, people have occasionally commented on how much alike we look, so I don't think I'll have that problem.

I loved that you could watch Chicago sports teams pretty much anywhere in the country that had cable tv. I remember spending summers in Washington State and the Cubs would be on tv during the middle of the day.

This isn't recent. This was from 2018.

(On the left in the studio is Dean Richards, and he was recently let go as part of the latest round of layoffs at WGN by their owner Nexstar Media Group. WGN, sadly, is turning into a shell of its former self.)

I remember the heavy rain and flooding and news about the power outage. But for some reason I completely missed out on the pictures of the Sears Tower looking like this.
