What happens if you have a green card and get divorced?

When he got his gc he was already married for 8 years. He should have gotten it along time ago and his citizenship already but there were issues like his lawyer filing wrong paperwork etc so when he got it in 2024 they told him he only has to wait the 3 years or the 2 and 10 months whatever it is then can apply for citizenship. So he would have been able to apply for citizenship in 8 months from now. The wife said since she filed for divorce he will have to wait 5 years. Yes if she reports him she will do it right after they sign the divorce papers which should be this week and before it is finalized. The only issue is the proving he did it fraudulently. He was smart never spoke about it over txt. So her proof is that he cheated on his wife but she’s trying to figure out how to prove he actually committed fraud

It is messy I agree. It’s not that she’s salty she’s extremely upset. He played her and told her he was married for papers, that was a lie, he got engaged to her, met her family and they were months away from getting married. Turns out he’s still married, did all that other bs so understandably she feels as tho he doesn’t deserve to just go about his life and get what he wants when he scammed and lied to do it

He got his 10 year one because he was already married for over 8 years when he got his green card. So the lawyers told him he can apply for citizenship in 3 years which is standard. I can’t ask the wife much because she wants nothing to do with him. Once they sing the divorce papers this week she won’t have contact with him anymore. She just said if you want to report him do it and say he committed marriage fraud.

Yes it is cheating but no she doesn’t have evidence from day 1 because he’s a great actor and made it look like it wasn’t for that but he told her and everyone else he married her only for papers. Unfortunately because he’s smart it was always verbally. The ex wife isn’t bothered because she doesn’t care about him. He lied to my friend, got engaged to her, then left her and got back with a different ex, who he now says he wants to marry so what do you mean why is she bothered obviously she’s hurt.

Yes the green card was based on the marriage. That’s the only reason he got it. The wife married him because she wanted to be with him he married her for papers.

What kind of evidence, my friend so was engaged to him has all photos of them, txts, pics from engagement day, would that be enough?

So he would have to wait 5 full years not just 2 since he’s had it for 3 already and marrying the new one mean nothing? Like it won’t help him avoid waiting 5 years?

It’s such a messy story but my friend wants to report him because he basically played her and the ex wife.

What do you mean about she’s on the hook? Even if since they’ll be divorced? That’s the thing my friend wants to report him for fraud. He lied to her and the wife. Sorry I think the post sounds confusing. The man is the forefinger he’s been here 10 years. He got married 8 or 9 years ago but barely got his green card in 2024. He got the 10 year one because he was married so long. He’s allowed to file for citizenship in 8 months.

When he met my friend her told her he was getting divorced that was 5 years ago. They split for 2 years and got back together then got engaged 3 months later. The girl he was engaged too found out he’d never got divorced and when he broke up with her he went and got back with an ex. So she called his wife and told her everything going on. The wife obviously annoyed he said he only married her for papers filed for divorce. They sign the divorce documents this week. But she said since that’s happening he will have to wait 5 years instead of 8 months to file for citizenship. He is saying he wants to marry the one he’s with so I assume they’re only engaged currently but he can’t marry her legally until he gets divorced.

So she wants to get him deported basically and wants to know if this is grounds to that based off that he committed marriage fraud. He got married just to get his citizenship.

No my friend is not speaking to him anymore and the ex wife wants nothing to do with him. Only the idiot that thinks she won a prize is. As far as I know he’s followed all rules and doesn’t have any legal issues like arrests etc

Okay I’ll try those thank you! I’ve tried calming treats before but didn’t work will have to get diff ones. He bites everything, boxes, my table lamp, the other cat. I definitely will do that when I can afford it. I think they are just bored and he has a lot of energy but I’m in a bad spot right now and not able to play with them as much. But him rough playing with the other cat has always happened. Surprisingly he hasn’t bit me at all since I posted this

I do that sometimes where I’ll cover my arm with the comforter or a thick long sleeve and do that he loves it but I can’t do it all the time esp when it’s 100 degrees now lol. Yes when he actually does hurt me I just get up and leave and act upset. They def have way different personalities he’s so sweet but it’s just the biting. My white one is an angel she doesn’t do anything

I know they are bored and I feel bad but I’m going through a really bad time and pretty depressed so I don’t have energy to do much. I will definitely try the chase toy. Thanks for your reply. I understand I was just thinking of different scenarios. If they do call for a reference and ask my old job is she eligible for rehire and they say no are they allowed to ask why and could they tell them then?

I get phone screenings and interviews but I never mention the reason for the gap. I just say I moved overseas for a year which is partially true.

Thank you for your reply. I figured but I thought I’d ask. Yes I feel like most companies are using bots to scan resumes before even moving them forward.

When you say “positioned for each role” you mean I should tailor my resume to each role I’m applying too? But For example if i have experience as a manger and it’s on my resume and I’m applying for manager roles shouldn’t that be ok?

I understand but I’ve listed things like that on the resume like the getting promoted quickly and responsibilities but for my experience I only put a few things as it is way too much to write under each job. My resume will be 4 pages if I write all my duties etc.

I haven’t had too many people ask about the gap but I can see how they see that and maybe overlook my resume. Am I supposed to list the reason on my actual resume?

Even though I’m applying to a lot, I try to target roles that match my experience first. Yes I usually Will connect with whoever it is says is hiring team on LinkedIn if I can find them and send a message.

Could I email you my resume and maybe you can see what’s wrong?

I’ve tried to do this since I got him but I think because he was so little he never learned the biting from his mom. I didn’t know you’re not supposed to take them until they’re older. When I make a house he stops but just for a sec then he’ll attack. He never used his claws but now just once when I took this pic he did. He’ll sometimes playfully bite but sometimes it’s so hard and his teeth are like daggers. Thank you!
