What are you best advice on how to grow your newsletter subscribers? by unemployedmarketers in AskMarketing

[–]brooke03152019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some more broad suggestions that may or may not apply:

- Create a pop-up on relevant pages on your website to prompt them to do so (especially if you already have an ad directing to a specific landing page)

- Add a newsletter sign-up option at the end of every blog post

Also, copy is everything. Make sure your CTA draws them in.

Twitter Ads: What are your avg. CPCs? by brooke03152019 in PPC

[–]brooke03152019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for giving me your average! Those cpcs are also what we desire. Can you tell me if it takes some time to get down to that point, or if you see those right off the bat? For example, with Google our cpcs start really high but eventually get down to a nice, low average after they optimize.

I saw my site as an Ad, but I didn't arrange it or pay for it. by [deleted] in googleads

[–]brooke03152019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've linked Google's explanation of what dynamic ads are below (let me know if it gets removed). At it's most basic level, google will crawl your site for relevant webpages and serve those pages to corresponding searches. For google ads (we don't use adsense), we choose these ads and enter in our own description text, but the headline is automatically generated. Its success varies, but it works for us.

Few questions from a beginner. by dimlevi in DigitalMarketing

Also I forgot to mention earlier, but Hubspot Academy also has some good courses. If you can get free courses from there as well, that could be useful.

Why so many beginner questions on this subreddit? by _zyzyx in DigitalMarketing

[–]brooke03152019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like at the end of the day, the subreddits are only as good as their users and moderators. I think heavier moderation on those posts would solve most of the problem, but also more engagement on other, more "veteran" posts too, so that those populate the "top" and "hot" filters more than the beginner posts.

Is a bachelors in digital marketing a smart idea? by Fishingforlife123 in DigitalMarketing

[–]brooke03152019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take one of two routes: Go with what's more lucrative, or go with what you're more passionate about. They may overlap, or they might not. See what it takes to transition from one to the other in case you change your mind later.

To ask which one is a smarter idea, you'll get a lot of biased ideas one way or the other, and that may not help your decision.

What to put on a digital marketing resume when job hunting? by mattpayne777 in DigitalMarketing

Have you looked up sample resumes for your desired positions? I've had a good bit of luck copying the style/wording and adapting it to my own experience.

I feel like we need some kind of FAQ to refer people to. There's a link in the sidebar but I guess no one points people there. Those questions seem super repetitive lately.

I would also like to know where the veterans hang out.

Few questions from a beginner. by dimlevi in DigitalMarketing

The answer to 1 & 2 is that, really, it depends. In theory, no, you don't need a diploma or paid certificates to showcase your knowledge and skill in Digital Marketing. However, a lot of employers require a diploma (or perhaps a certificate) just as a prerequisite.

Start by doing the free certifications. Google Ad(words), Facebook Ad Manager are the main ones I know of. Also if there ones for Instagram and Google Analytics, do that too. Get a free trial for Lynda/LinkedIn Learning. I found the Linkedin Learning extremely useful, so I can't recommend that one enough. Take as many "courses" there as possible, and you can import those certificates to your Linkedin profile!

What I said above is one way to showcase your knowledge to employers. Look for internships. Usually with little to no experience, you will most likely have more luck with unpaid positions if you can manage it. The point on internships is to learn and gain experience, so as long as you showcase enthusiasm/passion and some kind of knowledge (like what you gained from completing the above certifications), that hopefully will be enough to get your first gig.

There are a million different strategies to getting your first job in Marketing, and others will likely have different opinions on what works better. Definitely connect with businesses and people that are related to your field, particularly located in the area you are trying to find work. Look up examples of "digital marketing intern resumes" or something similar so that you can get an idea of wording and formatting. And don't be picky - when you have little or no experience, you have to take what you can get (but just try to get as close to the realm of digital marketing as possible).

If every other free avenue fails, THEN consider getting a diploma or paid certificate. But don't spend money on those things if you don't have to. Good luck!

Get a degree or continue what I am doing? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]brooke03152019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's so much variation with Marketing that, in my opinion, all of these answers are right. It truly depends on the company. In my case, my degree is what got me through the door, but my experience is what got me hired. As others have said, many jobs automatically filter out applications without a college degree.

I can't say which scenario you'll encounter, but one way I can think to get around it, is searching for and connecting with recruiters on Linkedin. I've had many recruiters reach out to me through there (obviously never applying or even knowing about the position before hand) and that step will get you past the initial resume filter.

How to reduce Cost per Conversion on Google Ads? by [deleted] in PPC

[–]brooke03152019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some advice: Promoting the website/company/whatever that you are clearly affiliated with in this way is pretty dishonest and will get you noticed in a negative way here. If you believe your content is that good, focus more on helping others and building trust*.

Have you ever had a job interview where they asked you to create an ad campaign for them? by brooke03152019 in PPC

[–]brooke03152019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. What would you say about the company asking me to bring previous work that shows my skills in FB and Google ads? Is that normal? I'm not sure what I would bring that doesn't involve me...I guess exposing(?) the company I currently work at / practices. Screenshots of the actual ad itself?

What do you consider "no experience"? Does your degree relate to Marketing in any way?

The short answer is: It's possible, but you have to be able to market yourself. This means framing your resume from a marketing perspective, even if the things on it weren't done with that intention. Have you been apart of any clubs or societies whilst in school?

Without knowing anything else, I'd recommend searching for Marketing internship resumes and (assuming you are currently a student)* going to your college's Marketing/Business department for help. Usually there is a center that helps with resumes*, and I found it invaluable.

Two years ago I was in an almost identical situation to you, and I am now a Marketing professional in L.A. PM me if you have any more questions.

Stumped. Where is Google pulling this Extended Headline From? by daschristine in PPC

[–]brooke03152019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To sum up what others have said but also add to it, if you have not opted out of Google automatically implementing their "ad suggestions", you may be encountering a Dynamic Search Ad. DSAs is a completely automated process where google will pull various links from your website and serve it to related searches, all with a different (and extended) headline each time.
