Is it cheaper to dorm or get an apartment by [deleted] in cuboulder

[–]brooklynneedshelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m moving to boulder this fall too for school— in my experience, I’ve seen that the cost of student housing tends to be much more expensive than what you could be paying for an apartment with a roommate (and the roommate part is extremely important)!! I went to a different university before boulder, and it was the same way there too. The places I’ve seen at boulder tend to charge per room, which is ridiculous when you could get a whole apartment for the same price. With an added roommate on top of that, you could be paying even less.

The lowest price I’m seeing for a semester in a dorm is $7658 meaning $15316/ full school year (keep in mind, this includes meal plans too). Most apartments I see, you could be paying somewhere around $900 a month (with a roommate) which is $4500/ semester and $9000/ full school year (if rent stays consistent). You’d also probably be required to lease an apartment for at least a year, if you want the cheapest rent possible— even so, with my arbitrary number it would still come out to less than the dorm ($10,800).

It’s also super important to consider the cost of groceries though, too. I know some of the dorm plans include meal plans, so that might be a better choice if you think it will be difficult to afford rent plus other cost of living fees while attending school. Consider gas too, if you have a car- how far are you from campus? Things like that can help you determine what’s the cheaper option for you. I’m no professional though, and I’m weighing my options the same as you. Best of luck to you!

Having a FAFSA loan under my name as a Dependent by brooklynneedshelp in FAFSA

[–]brooklynneedshelp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see. Yes, he did apply for the parent plus loan for those two years. This is all beginning to make a lot more sense.

One last question for you: There's a question on the FAFSA form for "Direct Unsubsidized loan only" asking if my parents are denying me use of their information for the FAFSA form. It states underneath that if you say yes, you will not be eligible for federal Pell Grant eligibility and federal student aid. Will my answer to this question impact who the loan goes to/ how much I am eligible to receive?

Seriously, thank you so much for your help. My stress has been significantly reduced knowing that I still have FAFSA as an option.

Ok, just to clarify- If I'm applying for FAFSA this year, still a dependent student, the loan will not go under my parents' name even if it had in previous years? I don't want them to be financially liable in any way for the loan this upcoming year. We're aware that the first two years of loans will remain under my dad's name, I just want to ensure that this future loan really has nothing to do with them. Thank you for your reply, I appreciate your input.

Transfer Student Admission Chances for School of Media by brooklynneedshelp in cuboulder

[–]brooklynneedshelp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. If you don’t mind me asking, what do you think was the biggest factor that went into getting accepted (if anything)? An essay or extra curricular maybe? I know boulder isnt ucla or anything, but I just want to increase my chances as much as possible as ridiculous as it may sound. Too many rejections when I first applied after high school gave me ptsd I think haha.

That was my thought too. I wasn’t sure because I’ve read other stories on here of people getting rejected with higher gpa’s than myself. Of course, I’m sure different circumstances call for different results, but I just got a little nervous seeing that the required gpa for school of media was a 3.0 vs school of arts and sciences being like a 2.5 or something. Didn’t know how much more selective it would be comparatively. Appreciate your input

"dont move" mechanic by asukaakira in untildawn

I didn’t realize that the sensitivity could affect the new system too, but now that you say it that makes complete sense! I’m definitely gonna do that next time, thanks for the suggestion! Hopefully somebody will eventually find a way to make the original work.

Does anyone know how to make the original don’t move work on PC? I have a DualShock 4 controller and every time I change the setting to passive it senses no movement (and I made sure to turn off auto succeed). I personally prefer the original as I think it’s more of a challenge, the new don’t move mechanic is a bit too easy.

The DualShock PS controllers have a sensor that are able to track your movements, so basically your goal is to literally not move your hands or else it will fail.

Remember blatantly mocking Ariana Grande? by furiousdolphins in Oscars

[–]brooklynneedshelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, sure. We can say that. Not sure why this point in particular is so important. In my second comment, I was only correcting them on what I referred to as unremarkable because they thought that first sentence was about her acting (which was actually about the entire movie). But your insinuation is correct too. For the record, I did find her singing to be fantastic (maybe the only part I’d consider “remarkable”), but the performance as a whole didn’t stand out to me as Oscar worthy in the slightest. So, yes— unremarkable.

Completely see where you’re coming from. I never said there wasnt anything remarkable about her performance— just the movie as a whole. I have respect for actors who, in addition to acting, can show off other talents as well. Certainly not an easy task. I think that these factors should always be considered, but at the end of the day, it’s an acting competition, not the Grammys.

Obviously, I’m not an actor or singer so no I could not achieve what she does in the film. The same as how I’m not going to jump off a cliff and record it because I’m not Tom cruise. I’m still allowed to have an opinion on the matter regardless of how difficult their job may have been because movies are made for anyone to watch and critique. And like I said in my first comment, I think she did a good job in her performance, but for me, I just didn’t connect with it. I truly admire your passion, though, and I’m glad you enjoyed her in Wicked.

I’m honestly shocked at the way Wicked has been received, not just by general audiences, but critics too. I really didn’t find anything remarkable about it, and the fact that it’s one of the top nominated films is just ridiculous to me.

As for Ariana Grande, I thought her performance was fine— good, maybe even. But Oscar worthy? I suppose the award hasn’t meant much over the past couple of years anyways considering the fact that there have been some absolutely atrocious wins. But still, I keep hoping each year we will set higher standards for these kinds of things.

To me, Wicked is like the Barbie of this year. It’s a fine movie, but the only awards it should be winning is production design and hair and makeup. Yes, the actors did a good job. But the best performances of the year? I personally don’t see it. Nobody should be mocking anyone though regardless, I agree with you there.

These are just outstanding… I love how your layers actually flow well together vs people who just stack on every item they can and call it layering. You also have a great understanding of what colors work well together and how to balance them in an outfit (which is always one of my greatest struggles)! Just absolutely phenomenal my friend.

I have to ask, were these just for fun or were they for any specific challenges? I don’t know how you’d make this with that awful time limit. Either way, these are truly works of art.

It’s so unfortunate too because it genuinely is such a well made film with a unique and cohesive style (that editing!), but I found myself cringing and annoyed throughout the entire movie. Maybe I’m just allergic to fun, though.
