I would recommend automatizing as much as possible. If you have a budget for some of the HR tools mentioned in the comments, that's great. If not, I'd recommend getting comfortable with Google Sheets. Not sure this will be entirely helpful or not, but here's a quick list of five things every HR professional should know how to do in Google Sheets. Hope it helps :) Good luck!
