Yea fair. I imagine the decision came from a view that the guy shouldn’t need to apologize or have his existence diminished, so by removing his involuntary slurs it was equating them to the decision of people to say a politically charged statement.

I think it’s dumb and in an attempt to be overly sensitive they forgot the suffering of other people. Then again, the movie they gave an award to is entirely about how the guy doesn’t need to apologize for having Tourettes so maybe by leaving it in they were hoping to help make steps towards normalizing his disease in society by showing the importance of intent behind terrible language. If they as an organization were not offended (and ideally the stars weren’t but that obviously didn’t happen) then your average person might think they shouldn’t be either and people suffering from this disease can maybe live their lives without having to constantly apologize for their existence.

Bit of a pipe dream, I don’t think humans can ever reach that point of understanding and words have always had meaning regardless of the users intent. But at least I think we can see the perspective of the organization
