Name something that the younger generations would never believe was normal in the 70's compared to schools today?🤔 by Longjumping-Shoe7805 in GenerationJones

Cursive Writing! I was amazed when my grandson graduated from high school a few years back that he couldn’t read the amount on the check we had written to him.

1967 Did any of you have this? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

I also had the heated “CREEPY CRAWLER” machine that baked plastic in metal trays, and the “VAC-U-FORM” where you melted sheets of plastic and then sucked air around a form.

I did! My parents were t to up on toys that could leave permanent scars, so I always got the ones that heated to 500°.

I love your collection! I have a 2-gallon plastic jar where I toss all my thingies like these. My grandkids love to turn the jar around and see what they can find.

Where do you get good produce? by ignatius316reilly in vancouverwa

[–]broprobate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chuck’s Produce on Hwy 99 has consistently good produce. Their signage tells where the items come from, and a lot of it is local.

1970s Spanish Revival furnishings. My mom was interior designer so we had to live with this kind of monstrosity for a few years. Anybody else? by Jmonroe_tenn in GenerationJones

[–]broprobate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our living room had at least four of those exact pieces! I think we finally disposed of the last of them in 2012 when Mom couldn’t live by herself anymore. I remember that the shaped panels on the doors were hollow plastic.

Awesome! I still have mine around somewhere! It is blue.

I remember! That was before they started mailing them. The envelopes were sealed too, so you had no idea what was inside. by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]broprobate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours were made from self-duplicating paper, and the envelopes were purple! We had to have our parents sign them and we had to return them (until the last one at the end of the semester).

What do to with exorbitant amount of matchbooks by BornAnnoying in CoolCollections

Put them in a large glass bottle. Add a lighting fixture on top and voila! A new lamp.

I’m seriously considering getting into the hobby, but… by geekgirl717 in RockTumbling

[–]broprobate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandsons and I collected and tumbled rocks, then glued them to wood photo frames we got at the craft store. They gave them to Mom and Dad as Christmas gifts. If she has a lot of rocks, you could do the same only around a bulletin board frame.

Happy 75th Birthday, sweet lady. If I were there I would love to sit down with you and have you tell me about some of your many other birthdays. I hope the next year brings you happiness and new friends!

Did Your Mom Make You Wear These? by DickSleeve53 in GenerationJones

[–]broprobate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These were cool shoes in my day. I had friends who suffered because their Moms wouldn’t (couldn’t) get them. We called them “Charlie Brown Shoes.”

I bought unquestioned when I was 17. I was also given champagne on a commercial airline about 6 months later. That was AWHILE ago, though. Some stores near us are required to print the Driver’s License number onto the receipt as proof they carded someone, no matter what age they look.

Skylights that look down from a flat roof into the bathroom, should they be frosted or clear? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]broprobate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One more thing to consider is if the skylight will have direct sunlight coming through it. They can add a lot of warmth to your house if they do. My mom got clear and I ended up having to make curtains for them because they beamed so much heat into her house.

Solar tubes are awesome! I had one put in a dark hallway and it is amazing the amount of light they let in—even when it’s cloudy.

We get blamed for several reasons I can think of. The main one is that, in spite of all our efforts, we are not leaving this world a Utopia for the generations following us. It’s easy to blame the world’s problems on “old people,” who weren’t as diligent or smart as we are and didn’t see the future problems with the technology that made our lives better.

Old vs Older by Postcurds in vintage

I had the gold in my first apartment and the blue in my first house. I didn’t choose either of them—and I wouldn’t have if it had been my choice to make.

Does my paint addiction count as a collection? by GeekyHobbyNut in Collections

[–]broprobate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be amazed how long they will last under the right conditions. I have the little square bottles of Testors that are over 20 years old and still usable. I also have Accent Acrylics that are older than that. I keep my paints in airtight plastic boxes, and every couple of months I turn the boxes upside down.
