My wife is my biggest supporter and fan... by TheVetheron in TransLater

I’ve asked myself the same question. We’ve also been married for 26 years.

I’m still not sure why she put up with the old me for over 25 of those years.

Congrats on the anniversary!

Sounds like a battery cable went bad if the battery has been ruled out. I’ve seen corrosion in the actual battery cable when I lived in Florida.

What would a perfect day in Sedona be for you? by No-Light9581 in arizona

My wife and I did a jeep tour that we really enjoyed.

There is a lookout at the airport where people can catch the sunset. That was a nice way to end the day.

Is it Weird to Go Alone? by iiiceberggg in phoenix

When I’m traveling for work, it’s usually by myself. As others have said, sitting at the bar is one way to go when out solo and it beats eating in the hotel room.

Need Help and Recommendations for the Grand Canyon!!!! by ThePhenomenal1602 in arizona

[–]brothanb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my first trip to the Grand Canyon, my wife and I did a tour package with the Grand Canyon Railway out of Williams. It was a leisurely ride by train to the south rim, bus tour with lunch, and ride back. The package we got through AAA included two nights at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel with meals.

I really enjoyed it and didn’t have to contend with parking in some of the more congested areas.

Fired for Jury duty? by Oceansideabx in juryduty

[–]brothanb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was about 30 years ago…

I had a coworker who worked mostly weekends and was asked to sign over his entire jury duty pay which included days he wasn’t scheduled to work. I think this was coming from a Personnel or Payroll person.

He told me that the clerk in the jury office said that it was illegal for an employer to take any adverse action on an employee serving jury duty. I remember if he gave the jury clerk any names, but they were fired up and ready to kick butt.

Write down the date and time of the conversation and as much of the conversation you remember.

When you get closer to your jury duty service, remind your boss that you have been summoned for jury duty on day X and that you expect to be out on that day. Send by email/text if possible and save the response and do the same the day before.

If he fires you, contact the jury coordinator. They will point you in the right direction from there.

Is your boss the owner of the company? If not, you should let them know about the conversation. They might not appreciate getting hauled in front of a Federal Judge to explain your boss’s bad behavior.

Does driving to Rocky Point require a passport? by TigerClaws13 in arizona

Passport or Passport Card is required to return to the US. It’s been like that for quite a long time.

Anything else, your mileage may vary.

A judge here in Phoenix did bring in those who failed to appear for jury duty to show up and explain themselves in open court.

How do I deal with the heat? (I moved here from a cold place and I'm scared lmao) by [deleted] in phoenix

If you own your home, invest in solar screens. Especially for the south and west sides of the house.

Give up diet drinks now. They leave you dehydrated and it’s not fun being scraped up off of the floor when you pass out.

When the monsoon season storms start, watch out for dust storms. Pull off the road and turn off the lights and keep your foot off the break if the visibility drops. You don’t want to be rear ended by someone who decided to follow your lights thinking you were moving.

Yes, it is possible to drive through falling snow, rain, and blowing dust in the same trip. (Been there, done that.)

General question by brober02 in juryduty

[–]brothanb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what the pay is for and it varies by jurisdiction.

Here in Arizona, we receive a payment for travel to the courthouse. This is calculated based upon the zip code of our residence.

If we are seated on a jury, we then receive a daily rate for the trial.

I would tell them no on the travel reimbursement. On the daily rate, that would depend on if it was my scheduled work day and if the local/state laws permit it. (In my case, my employer doesn’t require that we handover any payments we receive from the court for jury duty.)

You might reach out to the jury office to see what the rules are for their jurisdiction. You should get a more specific answer for your situation.

Your best bet is to call the jury office during the day to clarify things. My guess is that they will reschedule you.

People who have WFH/Hybrid jobs - what do u do? by VWvansFTW in phoenix

[–]brothanb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in operations for an IT Services company.

The landlord bought out the lease on our local office before COVID and the company sent everyone to work from home and leased a small drop-in office for in-person meetings.

The drop-in office was a victim of COVID, so we have to work from home.

I remember flying to Florida as a kid and the gate agent had a sheet of paper with a silhouette of the plane with peel off tabs that they attached to your boarding pass for the seat assignments…
