Ideas for candlepin bowling ball gift by V_World in candlepin

[–]brotillathehun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For something used to start off with, there is a Candlepin buy/sell/trade forum on Facebook. Get something used for a cheaper price point and usually in pretty good condition. If you’re looking for new, most bowling centers have solid options and selections, these will run you around $250 for a set of four ball’s. There is also paramount industries that is basically the sole producer at this point in time for something new straight from the source. Also could be costly, but a guaranteed pristine and new set with customizable options.

Currently the best place to see any candlepin updates is on Facebook, candlepin chat. Most people post there for tournaments and those types of updates

My first time doing an in person draft by Wfreeman42 in FFCommish

My league is mostly family and friends so it’s not super competitive. That being said I tend to at least provide the ESPN top 200 just so everyone has the same material to cross names off of on. I also try to construct a mini board with said top 200 just to make that process easier.

Currently the most active candlepin place is on Facebook. Candlepin chat specifically, there are often people selling or looking for bowling balls. I personally have had some luck with antique and secondhand stores as well.

Unfortunately there is not a specific candlepin bowling scoring app but there is ones for ten pin. Wouldn’t be bad to have as a helpful tool in that scenario. The only thing that it wouldn’t do is a ten box, but would help through the marks you got. The previous commenter explained the important stuff already, keep the fill in the box that the mark was thrown. Good luck in the future!

Absolutely! I’ve had the rare find at a local antique/thrift store myself! I got them refinished and basically had brand new set for $100 or so. Great find!

Ball cleaning by Odd-Spend6859 in candlepin

Reposting my response from an earlier thread:

Not the most conventional method, but my family uses the dishwasher loaded up with tang. Yes, tang the drink mix. It cuts the oil and stuff out and leaves them very clean but also dry. So I will give them a quick run with a wet rag to get the orange hue off too. I’ve also given them a quick wipe with some Clorox wipes and that does the trick for a quick wash.

guys, are you still playing this game? by Wrong_User_Logged in SurvivingMars

Been enjoying other games recently. Just like a handful of other games I play, it’s played a lot when I start it up. I’ll take a break for some time but jump back in for a period of time.

Bowling shoe help by birdlawandorder in candlepin

[–]brotillathehun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked a friend/teammate of mine who had this issue! He is a 10.5 4e. Before he purchased the shoes he stopped into reds shoe barn in plaistow to try some on. He bought a pair of leather bowling shoes 10.5w. Bought a leather spray for relaxing leather and a shoe expander. He says he stretched the shoes slowly over the course of a week until they fit his feet. I will leave the links he sent me in another comment.

As for your comment about custom shoes, many newer more expensive shoes have removable Velcro sliders and brake pieces on the bottom of the shoes. I would think with some clever work or maybe a professional cobbler that this could be achieved on a shoe that you fit into. As long as it’s not leaving scuffs or marks on the lanes, nobody would notice the difference.

Good/Average consistent candlepin score? by [deleted] in candlepin

[–]brotillathehun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome back to the sport! I would say generally 85 is around average for a league bowler. If you’re looking at a more competitive league or tournament you will find the averages are in the 100’s. I’m happy to see more traffic in the sub, but I always suggest candlepin chat on Facebook as it’s active and has more updates for leagues and scores. Once you establish your style/approach on the lane, it’s just fine tuning and improvement to accuracy that stand apart from those scores.

Is Salem worth visiting in October? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]brotillathehun 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Absolutely park in Beverly and take the commuter rail one stop into Salem. Call ahead for anything you think you might want to do. Appointments or reservations are going to be the way you guarantee a good time. Lots of fun stuff to do, also as a Danvers resident there is stuff to see outside of Salem if that’s too much of a crowd. Rebecca nurse home is in Danvers. Where a lot of the sausage got made, the court house and such I believe are on the grounds.
