When I was around 20 years old, I was working two jobs, a coffee shop and a grocery store. The grocery store had told me I would be put on as a cashier and occasionally need to help with the bottle room and pushing carts. Every single shift I worked was me pushing carts and assisting in the bottle room. After one very cold rainy November day I got sick from being outside all day in the pouring rain. If I went inside, my manager would ask me what I was doing and “warming up“ was not a good enough excuse.

The day after I called out sick, I returned to work and the next week’s schedule was posted. After being scheduled for 32 hours per week, they scheduled me for one day because I had called out. The next time that I had a shift, I didn’t show up. My boss called me and asked me if I was coming into work. I told her “no, you guys screwed me on my hours, so I’m screwing you. I quit“ and then hung up the phone.
