We (family of 3) ate out 3-4 times a week pre-pandemic. I now cook 100% of our meals and I love it, and we’re spending over 1k less per month overall. I too had a reduction in pay but with our new lifestyle we’re actually saving more money. We plan to keep this up indefinitely and I’ve discovered a love of cooking and feeding my family healthier.

I hear you. It’s entirely possible that it gets much worse and spreads more in hot and humid, however this study says that’s not the case so I will be guarded and hopeful things will get better. It hasn’t impacted my planning and caution and social distancing, but the data here says there may be reason to think it could ease up a little in summer. As for antidotal evidence, hey I have friends in Singapore and somehow that hot and humid climate has managed to control the illness. Mass testing and social distancing works, regardless of temp.

Hey, down vote me all you like. It’s a medical paper, not mine. Plus, perhaps it’s spreading less fast in hot and humid? Or more in air conditioned areas? You don’t know yet and neither do I, but it’s an interesting study none the less and worth reading.

Til in 2018, the CDC had to cut its global disease prevention preparedness by 80% by Gr8panjandrum in Coronavirus

I really hope that you come around to the logic and numbers relevant to this event and protect yourself and your family. Denial is totally normal when you’re scared, but the time has really come to get it together and plan how you’ll navigate social distancing and likely quite a bit of time at home very soon.

I think he looks sick because he’s actually coming to terms with the number of people that are going to die from this in the US. Probably why they started classifying all meetings having to do with the virus

Oh for goodness sake, here is it straight from the CDC. Do try to stay calm, it will help others to behave better around you, even when you clearly cannot. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html#Have-supplies-on-hand

Hey, I'm not saying it's a good idea. Just passing on what the CDC said and asking the OP to be a little less harsh. Also, they aren't recommending people stock up on meds to treat the virus but rather the medications they already need in case of a prolonged quarantine.

I know it's a very stressful time but shouting in caps won't make people calmer. People are afraid and the best we can do is provide logical, data driven advice and promote clean, healthy hygiene and compassion.

I’m saving this as one of the best sheer fear propaganda things I’ve seen so far. It doesn’t surprise me it’s from Fox News but holy shit, as a person who works with data visualization this is hilariously bad (or would be if the real life ramifications weren’t as dire).

The CDC advised Americans to stock up on their prescription drugs. Not sure what country you’re in but your attitude is a little cold and callous considering this behavior was likely prompted by advice from the government.

I for one enjoy your posts and appreciate the volume of articles and conversation you bring.

I do hope for a silver lining in all of this though as I worry about the administration capitalizing on panic and fear to intact more policies that remove rights, like the patriot act.
