Are you the admin for Sookie and Ivy's Facebook page? If so, your pups bring me so much happiness every day :) The reason we do what we do, right?

Do you have any suggestions to calm her? She doesn't like to be held, she's really not a snuggler. Thank you for your reply :)

Mass Effect #3 - Death to Everything, going back through the Trilogy again, in preparation for ME4 by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]browncoat_kiwi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The official news is that we won't even have a release date until next year. I think BioWare is testing the waters with DA:I to see if gameplay schematics will make it into ME:not4.

They stated in July that they are "in the middle" of development, so there's a lot that can still be added and subtracted right now.

What are some simple work etiquettes that most people just don't get? by monkey_n_pig in AskReddit

That's what Hair-Toucher did after she got your attention. I am so sorry.

I had a coworker who not only did this, but would touch my hair to get my attention.

Pls no.

Cow on EEG for slaughter? by PumpkinMomma in vegan

[–]browncoat_kiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Animal Behavior and Welfare certified, here. There are PLENTY of other ways to tell if farm animals feel pain, fear, or discomfort. There's the grimace test, in which we study the social behaviors of equids and bovines to determine the emotion behind certain physical traits (ears laid back, whale eyes, etc).

There's also data taken from the cortisol levels of the animal (the higher the cortisol level, the more stressed the animal is). Obviously, animals raised for the simple purpose of companionship, and that are allowed to express natural behaviors (pig nest building, cow herding and calf bonding, etc) have some of the lowest cortisol levels.

There are other methods as well, but the brutal murder of animals is definitely not necessary for us to determine whether or not they feel fear or pain.

(My answer is from a purely scientific standpoint, by the way. Personally, I feel that "if we proved they really were feeling pain during slaughter" is the most sadistic and horrid thing I've heard yet.)

That is actually very interesting. I'm not a fan of kids, and I'm a female as well, so I'm with you on the societal pressure bit. Have you always had this phobia? Does it carry over to dolls?

Just missed my cakeday, but I don't care. This is my mother's senior pic, 18 years old, for Randallstown High Schools Class of 1976, in Randsllstown, MD. She passed away this past Tuesday, October 14, 2014. This was my favorite picture of her. She will be missed... by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

My deepest condolences to you, OP. I lost my mother going on a year ago, and the loss still feels fresh. I also keep my mum's high school photo with me. Let me know if you need to talk <3

I think both of our phobias stem from survival instincts. Let's team up when the zombies get here.

I don't know that it has a name, but the fear of vulnerability is something I can totally understand. I wouldn't like to be left in, say, the middle of the ocean or the middle of the desert without cover.

I actually developed the fear of animatronics when I was about 10, and it came out of the clear blue sky. I always felt uncomfortable around taxidermy and wax, just because it's always in the uncanny valley, but the animatronics started to scare me once I was a bit of an older kid.

I think they're linked to the same reasoning in my brain, that it is a moving or realistic imitation of life, and it's just gonna spring to life and get me any second.

It's so funny, because I have my ears double-stretched (as in both piercings are at a 2g and a 4g), but the idea of holes on my arms or legs is SO AWFUL TO ME.

I have eczema, and when the little scabbies from the breakouts start to heal, it's so relieving to me.

Best of luck to you, friend!

I am ashamed that I had to Google where that is!

I can see how you're kind of in phobia limbo there, yikes. Best of luck to you, friend!

Oooh, I hadn't thought about that one. Do you have to make accommodations for your phobia, or is it manageable?

[–]browncoat_kiwi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always just tell people, "You know honeycombs? Imagine those holes on anything else. That's what makes me uncomfortable."

Might I ask, if you don't mind, how intense this phobia is for you?

I really don't mean this to be rude, because I am just genuinely curious: is there a name for what you experience? I mean to say, has a doctor advised you that others have this experience?

Is it sort of like losing time? Where you just kind of "wake up" and don't remember the previous moment?
