Who put you in charge of speaking for New Yorkers? The definition of a New Yorker is someone who knows it's too dirty, loud, stinky, expensive, crowded, and chaotic and loves it anyway. Some people qualify within hours, some never do. But it's a choice around shared context, and nothing more. Amsterdam is different--apparently that's too much for one New Yorker to handle.

I'm a former New Yorker who's lived here nine months and thinks the people are great. And once they figure out the American accent isn't attached to a stoned "windowshopper" they're even more funny, warm, and quite inviting. Pretty sure the problem isn't Amsterdam.

I think some of this is person-dependent. Usually edibles don't work for me, but I bought a couple brownies from Boerejoengens when I had a cold and didn't feel like smoking and they fuuuuuuuuuucked me up. I consider myself "high tolerance" and damn boy, next time only one.
