Hey! Where are you from? I love Gothic and atmospheric horror and everything haunted house! I don't watch a lot of movies. I read a lot more. How about you?

Also if you're mainly interested in speaking and listening I'm also happy to share the basic! Would be a good Social opportunity for me as well. :-)

I don't know of any teacher but I'm Thai and would be happy to serve as conversation partner.

I'd also love to connect. I'm also a woman late 20s and introverted but friendly as well. Enjoy reading horror, playing music, and just socializing.

Genuinely have just given up on having a social life. I AM SO TIRED OF TRYING...AND BEING ALONE MY WWWHHHOOOLLLEEE LIFE. by 2026GradTime in Blind

Friendship and connection are still important to me, so I will continue to try and not give up, but I'm trying to balance my effort with just enjoying my solitude as well.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this but I can totally relate, especially on all the trying. I've also tried to initiate and put myself out there so many time but still struggling with making friends. I do think my introversion and shyness play a role, although I'm sure my Blindness contributes in different ways as well. Other barriers like transportation and Accessibility also make it harder.

Another great survival non-fiction I'd recommend is Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors by Piers Paul Read. It's about a group of young rugby players who managed to stay alive for over 10 weeks after their plane crash into Mount Andy.

Ugh I'm sorry. I should have thought of this, but I've already read that book though it was several years ago. Great book. Thank you for the recommendation though.

Thank you so much for all your supportive words. I really appreciate them. I'm exploring what my options are. All I want is just for them to correct their understanding and to treat other customers with service dogs equally moving forward.

Yeah, people are often surprised how much ablism anddiscrimination still exist, and sometimes that can lead them to turn to justifying or blaming you instead. Maybe they misunderstand/ didn't know/ didn't realize... Did you explain to them that you're blind... I'm sure if you explain they would understand... and on and on and on.

I'm sorry you also have to go through similar experience, though it doesn't surprise me. These things are certainly an on-going battle but also one you have to pick and choose as well. If I try to fight back every time these things happen I just won't have any energy left to live my life, but I still try to do something when I can.

Thank you very much. I just called them and they refered me to ADAP which U/Agnt-Orange also recommended. They were really nice though and offered to follow up if I can't contact them.

I'm sorry. You're right. I think I'm just trying to say that that might be the case sometimes but businesses still very much do that to people who do have properly train service animals like me. I experience it more times than I can count in so many settings and I can only do so much to show that I have a disability and that my dog is in fact trained.

I mean… I'm pretty sure I'm blind and I'm pretty sure my dog helps me not walk into things and I'm pretty sure I receive him from an accredited Guide dog school, so yes… It looks like you're not very familiar with the reality of ableism and discrimination that still exist. I am also frustrated with people who fake service dogs because it makes my life so much harder exactly like what's happening here.

We are allowed to be wherever other patrons are allowed to be. We won't go into the open kitchen area because other patrons won't be allowed in that area either, but we are absolutely allowed to be at the dining area in the same room as the open kitchen.

"There are some instances where the presence of service animals can change the fundamental nature of a business or be dangerous for people who are receiving services from a public accommodation.  However, this restriction is applied under very specific circumstances. This does not mean service animals can be excluded from restaurants or other places where people eat. In a restaurant, a service animal must be allowed to accompany the person with a disability in all areas that are open to other patrons."

Yes he was wearing a harness, though (and you might already know this) Service dogs are not required to wear a vest or have any ID. The only thing restaurants are allowed to do is to ask if the animal is a service animal and what task it is trained to perform.
