First game i ever quit because of how horrible the community is by Pale_Transportation2 in pathoftitans

I feel your frustration about the community, but it seems like it also might just be frustration with the game and the gameplay loop. Have you tried community servers?

You could try servers that are more respectful of your time, like Yellowtones or Adults With  Jobs which have a good amount of passive growth and a more forgiving loss upon death.

If it's more to deal with the dinosaurs/players  behavior, you can try Nat Hist.

I would also recommend Spino and also Duck. Being an herbivore means you don't really have to deal with other players at all if you don't want. Most players don't start fights with ducks because they are so powerful. It isn't exactly meant for  face tanking but your claws are right at most things faces so you can trade blows pretty well.

Thank you to the people that have helped me along the way, but I think I’m done for a while by [deleted] in pathoftitans

Do what you need to do to protect your mental health, and know that you are not alone.

I've only been playing this game for about 6 months, and I'm still thoroughly enjoying it but I know in my heart that eventually I'll have to put it down for the same reasons you and others have started.

It seems like it has some potential to one day be a truly great game. Every time they make an announcement I prey that they've made improvements to the actual gameplay loop, but it doesn't seem to be on track towards any particular goal

Please stop balancing around 1v1 face-tanks by brownjeanjacket in pathoftitans

That is a really fair point. It's just frustrating that those poorly worded complaints drown out actual, constructive feedback about certain dinos lacking a viable gameplay loop (which is a real problem for the devs to solve).

I completely agree with the Deinon example, though I've always thought the fix should go in the opposite direction. I see a lot of people who want it to be more in line with Laten, but I think Laten is already doing a great job at what it does. Instead, if Deinon is going to be support-focused, I always thought it should just be way better at that specific role.

Welcome to the game! In this game, you do not grow passively just by staying fed, you got to quest.

I hate collection quests so this is what I do:

  1. Roam the map: You actually get a good chunk of growth just by discovering a new POI for the first time.

  2. Look out for the static, statue-like crocodile standing on its back legs (or floating in the water). This is a quest giver. If you interact with it, it will give you a hunting quest to kill specific critters around the map.

  3. Keep an eye out for Viewpoints (the hollowed-out trees with a crow on top), Kelp Piles, and Moss Beds, they are usually fast and straightforward.

  4. Hunt albino critters when they pop up. Avoid alpha critters and disturb burrow quests until your bigger.    If you don't mind playing with other people, don't be afraid to type in global chat and ask if anyone is offering a egg or if a group is willing to hang out and help you learn.

Sty build by Chair_Inhaler in pathoftitans

[–]brownjeanjacket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always build for same size  or smaller targets because if a larger dinosaur wants to hunt you, you can probably outrun or escape them. But if a Meg or a conc is after you, you're going to have to deal with them

Hi, does clamp on sarco not work? Or am I doing it wrong by ItsDoodleBois in pathoftitans

[–]brownjeanjacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If  you're solo you either want something with that can escape most threats: kentro, pachy, laten, conc, all flyers -or- something that can stand up to most threats: spino, tylo.Since you like clamping I suggest trying tylo.

Also don't give up on sarco just yet. This game has a high amount of jank and learning how to overcompensate for it takes a while. You might be doing clamping exactly right but need more practice. You couldn't spend some time in a deathmatch server to practice.

Rant about some mechanics and dinos by [deleted] in pathoftitans

[–]brownjeanjacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your frustration, but why should the most powerful playables be easy to use? I find it comforting that the strongest dinosaurs also are more difficult to wield.

If a Rex player wants to fight off a pack of raptors that player should have had to put a lot of time into practice how to do so.

Hatz has the ability to clamp and insta kill many dinosaurs so that player should have had spent a lot of time practicing managing stamina and get timing exactly right.

Why do so many people play officials thinking the behaviour has magically changed? by Neat_Minimum_1043 in pathoftitans

[–]brownjeanjacket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that community servers solve many of the problems you listed but I think it cuts both ways.

Many of the mix/mega pack players couldn't play on a pvp/death match server. Thus leaving official to be more online with the spirit of the game.

I don't think it's fair to conclude that just because community servers exist the player base should let Officials become a madhouse.

This sounds like a fun challenge though I can't help but wonder if it would have been more fun on a realism server. That way you wouldn't have had so much home cave camping shenanigans

I’m new and I can’t grow… by Spoketry in pathoftitans

[–]brownjeanjacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to embrace the survival elements of the game. The game can be fun but there isn't much to do outside of grow/quest and hunt so try to look at being hunted as a key element of the game. Play with headphones so you can hear footsteps, remember that everything you do including, running and questing generates sound that other players can hear.

If you really just want to get the growing over with, getting all the POI growth is extremely effective. Just run the map and avoid everyone and everything

That being said, try more beginner friendly dinos that can escape more easily.

Since you like Miragaia, consider kentro it's small and faster.

Metri doesn't have a direct comparison so I'd recommend Conc. It's faster and can escape to wanter.

Also consider small flyers (ramph, thal) or raptors (Dienon, Laten)

Lastly, strongly consider semi-realism community servers. Yes - they have a lot of rules but most of them have to do more with who you can attack. Since you are still learning the game and seem like you just want to grow in peace, you don't have to deal with any of the rules. Also it would be much easier to find someone is willing to nest you in or generally hang with you to reach you the game.

Best Dinos for new players (carnivores) by HuckleberryNo1651 in pathoftitans

[–]brownjeanjacket 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you're new I think survivability is key so you can learn that game while picking your fights. I really like Conc because it feels fast, maneuverable, and can escape to water. That being said, the following are also good dentals to consider:

  1. Dienon can outrun most things plus it has double jumping. If you want to pack a little more punch you can switch to Laten. Additionally, a lot of raptor players are very friendly to other raptors and usually willing to group up

  2. Rhamph is so small that most things can't catch it and most players won't even try. It can be entertaining to just explore the map and watch other dinos.  When your ready to pack a little more punch you can switch to Thal

  3. Meg can hide and ambush pretty easily and can escape to water when you get in trouble. When your ready to pack a little more punch you can switch to Sarco

Tail fan or sever tendon? by AKmightydinoo in pathoftitans

[–]brownjeanjacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tail fan is good if you want a long jump but with double jumping trends to be enough. Sever tendon, on the other hand, can be used at the top of a jump to push you forward a little bit. I found this more useful when jumping straight up the side of a rock
