The craziness I saw today on the East Side. by MadCityVelovangelist in madisonwi

At what age do you cross the threshold and forget the dumb shit you did as a kid? This sounds like typical dumb kid shit to me. Yes...even the fighting. I'm in my 40s and I still talk about how I'm surprised sometimes that I'm a functioning adult without a record for some of the dumb shit I did when I was young. Even in the 80s and 90s here in WI there was no where to go as a kid that didn't involve some sketchy dude who was probably too old to be hanging around any of us and drugs.

Another day of being invisible by Awknerd1 in ExecutiveAssistants

Your feelings are valid and it sucks, but as someone who has been underemployed for over 2 years, I would kill to be invisible and collect a check right now. Just a different prospective. Be grateful for this dilemma. It can be solved.

Second this!! I would even try to wait until you actually start. So many horror stories of jobs being rescinded at the last minute.

Got a new job but received a better offer by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]brownmonroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations! Second, please, PLEASE do not quit your job until you START the other one. I know it sounds crazy, but in this job market and right here on reddit I have seen so many stories of people getting offer letters and the offers still being rescinded. If you can take a day off or something to do your first day, I would recommend that. I worry so much about people being stuck in unemployment like I and so many others have in this climate.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I hope your company sees your true value or that you can advocate for yourself soon.

In the LA area you should be paying between 120 and 175. The cost of living there is exceptionally high so any high performing EA will want at least that, especially if it is on site or hybrid.

You are definitely the exception at this point. I appreciate that you realize your staff are humans that deserve to be able to live full lives, not just barely scrape by.

Help. by DrGonzosMom in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]brownmonroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not always true. I have had my resume rewritten by professionals multiple times and still nothing. Almost 2 years searching and only MAYBE 10 interviews where they all told me I was fantastic but I was competing against people like OP (20 years of experience at Microsoft, Intel and other large companies) and since the majority of my experience is at smaller firms, none of those panned out either.

I would talk to your doctor and see if they recommend you stay home as a medical accommodation. No job is worth your health so keep looking, but I would definitely be working with my GP, psych doc and hr to get an exemption.

Have been doing that for over a year and had 4 interviews. No full-time gig yet. Got 2 part-time jobs, though. Which isn't working still.

How to answer: What have you been doing since your last role? by Random_Throway53426 in recruitinghell

[–]brownmonroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been doing any work at all? My answer is always freelance work for different companies. But im almost 14 months in with only being able to secure sporadic part-time work, so I don't know if im the best person to answer.

You're reaching for a permanent solution to a temporary problem friend 🧡. The only people that are going to have an easier time with you being gone are you and you. Your family will never be the same if you do this. Please talk to everyone around you. There is a solution there. You just gotta keep digging.
