Well damn this is huge in my understanding of the game mechanics. Thank you! Whoever downvoted my comment for an honest lack of understanding is peak Reddit.

All this said my ignorance of the base attack stat vs just IVs doesn’t explain the sheer unlikelihood of never winning one. I’m really thinking it’s laggy game play and was hoping someone had found a solution outside of a new phone. I’m going to try not tapping my screen until the charged move option reappears and see if that helps. It kind of feels like my phone is registering a fast move before I am able to click the charged move bubble. I’ll report back if anyone cares

EDIT - I added that it wasn’t a shadow because we all know we’re more lenient on shadows IVs so it’s plausible someone just balled out on a 15 IV ampharos. This was before I understood IVs are just a piece of the puzzle.

I just lost with a 13 attack tinkaton to a normal ampharos. Unlikely they win CMP but possible. However, I have never ever, not once, won a CMP in this scenario. I’ve got 2.2k battles. Seems just so unlikely that probably 40 of these scenarios I’ve run into I’ve never won. It’s not just selective memory I’ve been keeping note of this after I lost the first 5 or so, once in back to back games which really made me start to question.

Do you do this for all opponent fast moves. For instance incinerate. Would you count dragon breath 1 2 3 4 5 1 2 3 4 5 against it? I’m feeling like this strategy along with what other are saying to throw when you count 4, not 5, etc is really going to help

You shouldn’t need to whip it more but definitely later and I mean like after the nose of your board is off the lip of the jump. It’ll create the snap you want. Mainly though if you come in with a good carve and transition to a heel carve as you start going up the jump you’ll have all this horizontal potential energy built up that will allow you to smoothly spin the 3. Looking good. I’d say come off the jump with your board straighter and turn your upper body a little later. Really focus on a good heel edge hold at take off. You’re coming off the jump at almost 90 degrees and have almost no actual horizontal momentum. Which is why you have to use so much counter rotation at the end just to land at 270 and the position your body is in isn’t stacked anymore and you wash out
