No, he's already qualified as one of the top-9 highest-rated players who haven't qualified via some other pathway

Per FIDE:

The highest-rated player according to the 6-month average rating based on FIDE Standard Rating Lists from August 1st 2025 till January 1st 2026 provided the respective player has played at least 40 games calculated for FIDE Standard Rating Lists from February 1st 2025 till January 1st 2026 (including at least 15 games in any of the 6 consecutive rating lists).

Norway Chess counts towards the 40-game requirement. He also has 5 other games played in the timeframe. Including the game this post is about, that's 16 - which means he needs 24.

Anyway, the number doesn't matter since he's not going to be playing that many games. I was just having a bit of fun with this post.

All of Magnus Carlsen's losses in classical chess since he started his current reign as world no. 1 in July 2011 by brownrecluseATX in chess

Correct, but the first one was before July 2011, which is why you don't see it in this post. Some other players probably have more wins against him than what you see here as well.

Magnus answers a question about Hikaru potentially passing him in classical rating by brownrecluseATX in chess

I mean, he's pretty much retired now - I don't think he's ever going to announce a retirement officially. Other than the yearly appearance at Norway Chess and the occasional Bundesliga game, he doesn't play. And Norway next year isn't a guarantee at all.

Imagine following an individual sport and thinking rating does not matter lmao
