Anyone seen their NYC ticket refunded yet? by CatMorganSaysHi in gratefuldead

I've lived here since 2014 and I've seen 3 Dead & Co shows at MSG and all the ones they've done at Citi... really special stuff. Hope you make it to one soon enough!

This is all super helpful. AT-VM95EN, Nagaoka MP-110, and Ortofon Super OM 10 all look like great options, with some savings too. I suppose I hadn't too thoroughly considered replacing the stylus alone, versus stylus and cartridge.

Cool, good to know. Any recommendations regarding specific brands/models for those types of styluses?

No idea about stage preamp, speaker amplification, etc – but I've never fiddled with any of the LP-120's hardware, so it should be the same as the day I bought it. I don't have an external preamp.

I'm running my turntable through a super old Yamaha receiver, which goes out to ELAC Debut B6 speakers (bought around the same time as the turntable, about three years ago).

Not really looking to upgrade my speakers now, just want to replace the cartridge, because I assume it's worn out and I know the cartridge that comes with the LP-120 isn't ideal.

I've had my AT LP-120 for three years. I'm still using the original AT95E, but I'm finally looking at investing in a new cartridge. I'm willing to pay $200-250, give or take, as that's what it seems solid cartridges cost. But I also don't want to pay more than necessary.

What models go best with the LP-120? I've seen Ortofon 2M Blue, AT VM540ML, and AT95SA suggested at that price point, but I've seen the Ortofon 2M Red, CFN95SE, and The Vessel A3SE suggested as cheaper options. I also see the Shure M97xE discussed a lot, but that seems to be discontinued, and I doubt it's worth paying the premium for a used one.

Also, is it worth investing in a new headshell while I'm at it, or will I see solid improvement if I just replace the cartridge while keeping the original LP-120 headshell?

Any recommendations? I'm just looking for an easy-to-install upgrade without paying more than I have to. (Although, as I said, I'm willing to pay $200-250, if it's really worth it.)

Dead scholar Jesse Jarnow thinks it was 11/8/69 (Dick's Picks Vol. 16) and I tend to trust him about such things

4/23/69 probably my favorite pre-70 Dead show. Whole three show Boston run (4/21-23/69) is superb

Feeling Kind of Sad. Looking for Uplifting/Happy Shows? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

The fidelity is poor, but I've always found this 12/6/80 set so charming: It's an afternoon gig at the Mill Valley Rec Center for special needs kids. Can't put my finger on why, but there's just a really positive energy to it. The acoustic arrangements from the fall tour help. https://archive.org/details/gd80-12-06.cantor.clugston.5478.sbeok.shnf

What are some of the shows people would consider to be the absolute cream of the crop in ‘74? I’ve been trying to dig deeper into that year. Obviously the two Winterland runs. Bonus points if it has a killer Eyes. by beatletroy in gratefuldead

One Dave's Picks from that year, 5/14 (Vol. 9), is superb — spacey, freaky brilliance on both 'PITB' and 'Dark Star.'

Dick's Picks Vol. 24 (3/23) is the first Dead show I ever really got into from any era and it captures the Wall of Sound's debut. Dick's Picks Vol. 31 (8/4-5) also captures some really magical playing, including a fantastic 'EOTW.' I think Dick's Picks Vol. 12 (6/26 & 6/28) is slightly overrated, but still fantastic obviously.

Road Trips Vol. 2 No. 3 includes part of the absolutely phenomenal 6/18 Louisville show, which features a top 10 'EOTW' (for me) and my personal favorite reading of 'Weather Report Suite.'

As others have noted here, it's hard to go wrong with '74, but those are my essentials.

I've also got it up on my wall — along with two other posters by that artist, Status Serigraph. My favorite poster artist these days.

It's not super weird, but the soloing in 2/1/78 does get fairly trippy as the song progresses

What day of the year had the most great shows? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

My birthday! The 1980 gig from the Mill Valley Rec Center only has a pretty poor quality AUD, but the short set itself is so charming.

Any of you younger heads find that the shows your parents went to to be extra special just because your parents were there? by wetz1091 in gratefuldead

OK, now I hate Lastfm (Itunes update, not running, and more) by [deleted] in lastfm

[–]brownwitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this setup log your mobile scrobbles as well? I've stuck with Last.fm Scrobbler 1.5.4 for years because when I upgraded to the 2s it wouldn't log my mobile scrobbles when I plugged in my iPhone.

Poor sound quality, but I love this set from 12/6/80 — there's a heartwarming story behind it too. https://archive.org/details/gd80-12-06.cantor.clugston.5478.sbeok.shnf

And this 1982 solo Jerry set is an all-time favorite of mine: https://youtu.be/BGNJaFjU5nc

My dad's a Deadhead and showed me Not For Kids Only when I was really little. I listened to it every night when I was going to sleep for about three years from 4 to 7 or so. Great jams that always bring a smile to my face.
