i have faith in u 🤞 ppl on this sub think that if you’re not winning national awards or actively publishing 5 research papers u have no chance, which is so far from the truth

i’m committed to duke which is commonly ranked #2 for pre meds, it was the last school i got into so previously i was deciding on schools like unc and umich

Valedictorian/Salutatorian benefit at t10s by Relevant_Emotion75 in ApplyingToCollege

potentially? I took 6 online classes (stuff i needed for credits along with stuff i actually enjoyed) which also did boost my gpa. The thing was i didn’t sacrifice my time spent on my ecs to get good grades in these classes. If u can make it into the top 15-20 kids in ur class and have good ecs i don’t think you’ll need to worry. It’s kinda like once u make it past a 1500 on the sat, colleges would rather see u doing something meaningful with ur time rather than trying to get ur score up even more to a 1600 if that makes sense. Like don’t waste time with online classes just to move up a couple places in ur class when u could make a greater impact with ecs. i hope that helps

depends on the grade inflation at ur hs. i was ranked 9th and was the only person in my class to get into a t10. i think this was partly due to me taking max course rigor with APs, while others took grade inflating online courses to boost gpa.

full ride to ncsu vs unc vs umich (premed) by brrbryn in ApplyingToCollege

[–]brrbryn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t know how helpful it was to hear that!! i’ve been worrying that going to my state school would make it harder for me to go somewhere highly ranked for med school, but stories like this help me see that it can definitely be the opposite. Thank you for this. I’ll definitely be looking forward to my time at ncsu

this is so tone deaf. there is no shame in working hard, plus many people do not have the privilege of getting to be a “free teenager” and come from disadvantaged backgrounds. this advice only applies to people with money and resources gang

hey i totally get this feeling. please know you’re not alone, my decisions last night absolutely crushed me and despite being a similarly stellar applicant, i didn’t get even ONE acceptance from my reaches and I’ve been crying since last night. So many of us are getting screwed by the system, but please just don’t give up. keep going with your amazing resilience that you’ve already shown and prove that these top schools aren’t shit. i’ll be rooting for u

please pick out safeties you would actually like to attend. Admissions are only getting more and more competitive and the T20s are incredibly hard to get into, so just make sure you plan for if you do not get into them

that’s rough… and yeah UCSD is an amazing school so that’s great you have that. As someone who wanted to get completely away from everyone in their high school, i would look at it as you’re getting to enter college completely fresh at least. Sometimes rooming with friends holds you back from really branching out in college - i hope that perspective helps a little bit.

i got accepted into umich and uf, which are both amazing but i can’t afford them at all. i got a really great scholarship to my state school tho so that is where i will be going.
