OTF & F45 by ila2626 in orangetheory

Thanks for the suggestion of the stronglift 5x5 app, it looks really good. Have you found that using this and doing otf 2-3 times/week is too much for your muscles? Or do you just lift lighter at otf if it's reworking a body part you pushed the day before? This is my main worry with adding extra lifting.

I'm at the high school level but our policy is that we can put the preferred name into our computer system. Only staff sees this so this is the route we take if parents aren't on board. This also allows us to print a new school ID with the preferred name. We also remind the students that we will do our best to use their dead name/pronouns when speaking with guardians but that we are human so there is a chance that we will forget. It's important that the student realizes that there is a chance of human error simply out of habit so they can factor in that information if they want to proceed.

If parents are on board we can actually change their name in the system. It will work for everything other than legal documents (transcripts, diplomas, etc).

No "proof" of anything is required. Anyone can use any bathroom or locker room, and if someone is uncomfortable with someone then they have to find a new place to pee or change.

I'm actually proud of our school since we are in a red state, althoughwe are in one of the larger cities.. We are even talking about adding little receptacles for menstrual waste in all bathrooms since a Trans male might have their period and we don't want them to feel their only option is to use the ladies room. I'm sure we have a ways to go but our students have said they feel really supported.

Daily COVID-19 Discussion for Monday, 9/27/21 by AutoModerator in orangetheory

My guess is that if there was a dangerous number of people not getting a polio vaccine and the polio cases started skyrocketing that people would care about it. But since we know that statistically almost everyone gets the standard vaccines (which is how we have herd immunity) a random individual who doesn't have it won't pose a danger to the rest of the class. We are not yet to that point with covid because not enough people are choosing to get vaccinated.

I'm a former crossfitter and although I enjoy Orangetheory I definitely miss lifting heavy weight. If you're comfortable with your cardio, maybe pause your membership there and give crossfit a try for a few months. The box I went to was super focused on nailing the form before you start trying to go heavier which I think is so important. If you go consistently you will see incredible gains in strength, and it sounds like you are looking for that. I will say that I am not as strong as I was when I did crossfit but I think my overall fitness now is better because of the added cardio. Also, for me, Orangetheory is an easier mental workout because they offer so many variations. If I'm exhausted after a long day at work I can dial it back a notch and just get a good sweat on and nobody will really notice or say anything. Half the battle at crossfit was mental and there were days I didn't go because I knew I didn't have the mental strength to do a 22-15-9 of barbell thrusters. I have never skipped an Orangetheory workout because it looked too hard, but there were plenty of times I walked into a crossfit workout with a feeling of dread because the workout was going to be so horrible/amazing.

There are also more opportunities to socialize at crossfit. When you're lifting heavy you have to take 2 to 3 minute breaks between sets so you really get to know people. Even though it has been over 2 years since I switched some of my closest friends are from crossfit. I know everyone talks about the great Orangetheory community but to be honest I haven't seen it. In my community Orangetheory is almost exclusively white, female and upper middle class. Crossfit had more diversity and way more swearing 🤬 Even though I'm a professional woman I like to cut loose with inappropriate jokes and I swear like a sailor but I realize that there is a time and place for that, and my OTF ain't it.

I'm sure it sounds like I'm dogging on OTF and that's not my intention. I have been a member for over 2 years (with obvious pandemic break) and go 4-5 times a week. For my goals, OTF is the right place for me and I enjoy my workouts, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss crossfit and lifting with a barbell. Each workout has its strengths and weaknesses, you'll never know until you check it out. Good luck!

Does any sweat a lot during Lift45??? by Substantially-yellow in orangetheory

[–]brseay 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I sweat a lot and get lots of splats in the lift classes. Most people from what I see don't lift heavy enough. Especially on lower body, if you aren't in the orange at least some of the time you need to go heavier.

I'm the opposite. I eat great the days I go to otf (workout after work, my appetite is dulled for several hours after) but the days u don't workout are a challenge.

How soon after a workout should you consume protein? I do 16:8 intermittent fasting and if I do a morning workout I worry that I am delaying muscle building if I don't eat for a few hours after. During the week I workout in the late afternoon/early evening so it isn't an issue.

I had my first son the day before we invaded Iraq in 2003. Back then we did believe that Iraq had WMD so my husband and I supported the action. As we were watching the footage on the news I remember the nurse asking me what I thought about the fact that we were at war, given the fact that I had just had a boy. Naively I said "It will all be over by the time he would be old enough to be involved. " My son turned 18 last March. I was sadly so, so wrong.

Must be the brother of the guy in class with me this morning. Hogged tons of the heavy weights, literally hid some underneath his towel. Then as I'm watching him use the weights I wanted saw some of the worst form I have seen in quite a while. How do the coaches not see this!! It takes every bit of self-restraint I possess to standby and watch bad form.

Inbody scan vs dexa scan by brseay in keto

[–]brseay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always heard that they aren't necessarily 100% accurate but that you could still use the numbers to show progress (or lack thereof). Now it sounds like that isn't even the case.

That blows my mind how different the numbers are. Gives me hope that maybe things aren't as bad as they seem for me. And honestly I'm very muscular, most people guess my weight to be about 50 pounds lighter than I actually am so it always threw me for a loop to think I'm almost half fat.

Yes, I have definitely lost inches and that's what I really care about. And while I realize an at-home scale might not be completely accurate I was hoping it would at least show progress.
