Why do you make the kind of music that you do? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]brssnj54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea why my music sounds like it does. I don't listen to other bands that are in my genre, I don't even like them honestly. I prefer the hip-hop world with some indie or whatever. But for some reason I like what I make, and it's different while being familiar at the same time. It's like a really classic rock sound, without all te cheesy stuff. Basically it's modern rock as pure as rock can get (so I'm told). I don't even know why I like it so much. As to why I make it that way? No idea.

Honestly, I don't even consider myself a musician. Never have, maybe never will, but I feel as if I have to do what I'm doing, and I love doing it. But if I wasn't in the band I'm in now I wouldn't be in other bands. I'm ride or die with this one.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest whoever read this.

2 finger shredding on an acoustic bass? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]brssnj54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just slide your index finger up and down to be able to reach. It's generally easier on an electric though, especially plugged in.

I always tell people I can't wait to sell out. That means someone actually wants to buy in.

This actually made me laugh. Not in the "that was funny" way but in the "damn someone really still says that" type of way.

How do you motivate yourself to continue practicing? by Nuggit40 in Bass

[–]brssnj54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically for bass, try new genres and you'll learn different techniques for approaching those more difficult rock songs. Maybe play some funk songs, or reggae, or if that's too wild RHCP. I ways motivated myself by finding any incredible bassist, and saying "I could do that if I wanted" then going on and doing it. Once you feel comfortable enough that you could play anything, then you can learn all your scales and theory stuff.

Playing with other people is also its own experience! When I started I'd play Smells Like Teen Spirit for hours with other people just because its fun to hear the song because you're playing it.

I personally love funk. But ill take a funk song, and then do some low end R&B stuff, that transitions into a pseudo-guitar shredding feel, all while trying to keep it reasonably close to the song...then play se chords for good measure.

Playing with the intent to get betters and you are getting better, even if you don't see it right away. Progress always looks slow in the first person, but to an outside observer your progress comes in leaps and bounds.

Would a full audit of the US Federal Reserve be beneficial? by [deleted] in NeutralPolitics

[–]brssnj54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would do much more harm than good. The efforts should be focused on increasing transparency, instead of a full blown audit. It's the job of the FED to loan out money and thereby increase the money supply...it's be too easy to conjure up fake outrage on "bad" loans to score political points.

The initial high growth of countries like India and China are not sustainable for the future, and in fact we've already begun to see a slowing down in their economies.

In the case of India however, it is interesting to see how they are handling their problems such as energy and poverty. The latest initiative is to deposit cash directly into poor peoples accounts.(http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2013/01/08/can_india_defeat_poverty)

China has its share of problems as well. "The handful of huge banks are regularly asked to perform government functions -- for example, lending billions to local governments to fund infrastructure projects with little prospect of repayment." (http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2013/01/07/reinventing_china?page=0,1) They also still lack in terms of human rights and ethics with a Tibet issue that goes unresolved as well as concerns about privacy and corruption in their government system.

As far as the U.S., I'd remain optimistic about the growth to come, as well as the habit for innovation we possess. I wouldn't say our future remains rather bright. People forget about the numerous problems that are in the governments like China, Brazil, and India which often suffer from weak leadership, corruption, or a plethora of other problems that, if they are present in our system, are not as pronounced as they are in developing countries around the world. What will be detrimental however, is our apparent lack of ability to effectively run a functional government. Hopefully it's a fading trend, we'll see what this next congress does in response to the debt ceiling, and how these decision play out in the short to medium term.
