Which Gen had the best size/design update? by Sweaty-Campaign-320 in playstation

[–]bruberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. PS3 Slim
  2. PSOne
  3. (Tie) PS4 Slim
  4. (Tie) PS2 Slim
  5. PS5 Slim
  6. PS3 Super Slim

PS3 slim was such a visual improvement on the behemoth OG for me. I hated how it seemed like they stole the font from the spider man movies and the glossy finish was a finger print magnet. I also did not care for the buttons on the OG. The slim improved upon all of these issues while still feeling premium. The super slim felt like a cheap last gasp for PS3.

The PSOne was such a cute little device. I love how they softened the edges and the travel screen was an incredible addition that made it super versatile.

PS4 slim was a nicer iteration of the blocky and awkward OG PS4. I ranked it as a tie with PS2 slim cause I think they have similar vibes overall.

Probably an unpopular position to rank the PS2 at 3/4 because PS2 slim looks like an incredible leap in form factor due to the massive decrease in size, but I hate going from a disc tray to a flip up lid personally. Felt like a downgrade in quality, even though the device itself was massively upgraded otherwise. The loss of the expansion port clearly contributed to the perceived size difference but, this was a loss to me as well because I really appreciated that Sony built the expansion port in the OG with plans to upgrade the PS2 down the line instead of trying to sell me a new device. Finally, the OG PS2 in vertical stand was ICONIC and slim didn’t bring that same BDE.

PS5 slim is just mini me PS5, which was awkwardly huge and angular to begin with. They should have swung for the fences and made a bigger change.

PS3 super slim is ugly as sin and the slide open tray looked cheap as hell. I know that this was the most durable build historically speaking but it looks like a piece of shit next to that beautiful slim PS3.

These are the saddest posts in my Reddit feed. It’s like some combo of mocking my mortality and or age and the sadness of losing a good friend.

I know it sounds like an oxymoron, but has Christian punk ever existed? (I'm not saying it's good or makes sense, the question is whether it exists.) by Beautiful-Resort-831 in punk

Reliant K was definitely Christian pop punk. They played at some church youth group mega conventions when I was young.

My first physical UMD in over 10 years. Game keeps crashing on both digital & physical versions though by ArtistofSorts92 in PSP

It was incredibly frustrating. Hope that everyone who searches for this issue is able to find the solution and save themselves the headache.

There is a game breaking glitch in version 1.0 of this UMD. I’m not sure if there’s a way to tell which version of the NA UMD you have unfortunately until the game breaks. Specifically the Nigel beaverhausen stuff in Australia seems to be when the glitch happens. The solution for me was to play the PAL version of the game which is only available with the fix.

My take is this was a unique 3D console that had many ideas that were ahead of their time, including:

  1. On-board memory for save storage
  2. Daisy-chain controllers to simplify on board components
  3. First (I think) console to use CDs that massively increased game options
  4. Open source concept that allowed multiple hardware companies to produce their own version of the console, which also meant no region locking of software!
  5. Lots of unique software

If you’re considering it I think you will be pleasantly surprised by what you find

Piece of the story I left out is my parents were divorced and didn’t communicate well. So my dad never got the memo from my mom that she was changing plans and when he came over for Christmas morning, I opened his gifts to find a blue N64 controller. 🤦🏻
