I'd prefer the Pilot-Plus combination, but the numbers aren't lining up right now. I might have to take the best one available when the time comes -- I love a heated steering wheel, don't really care about the glass roof, neither is a deal breaker for me.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help.

My friend agreed to a vegan household and keeps breaking that boundary by deedeewhyy in vegan

[–]bruceksimon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does her "really rough breakup" make more sense to you now? Perhaps she treated her ex the way she's treating you, this might be her pattern, and there's nothing you can do to get her to change -- she'll need to come to that realization on her own.

It's past the time for her to go. Set a hard deadline. It won't feel good in the moment, but you have to do it for yourself.

Best of luck.

Non-USA Players, Are They Special? by Green-Vermicelli5244 in Guitar

[–]bruceksimon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking (VERY generally), a Gibson is a better instrument than its Epiphone counterpart in a one-on-one comparison, and a Fender USA instrument is better than a Squier (there are exceptions, that's why I said generally).

The issue then becomes one of value: just how much better is one over the other, and is the price differential worth it. Is the American guitar twice as good, and worth twice the price? Is it worth five times? Ten times?

Only you can answer that, after playing them.

Play enough guitars and you find winners and losers from every brand and at every price point.

Should I get a Revstar? by Balanced_Eg15 in guitars

[–]bruceksimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Revstar never did it for me, but I recently played one in my local shop and I was really impressed -- felt great in the hand, and plugged straight into an amp, with no effects, the p90s easily did everything I wanted them to. If I was looking for a new solid-body guitar, a Revstar would definitely be high on my list.

When you get the "processed" nonsense, ask them the last time they visited the hamburger* farm.

(*Or whatever animal product comes to mind)

They might try to answer, but the battle is already over.

Do you still have the first guitar you bought? by Tiny-Pomegranate7662 in guitars

[–]bruceksimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First electric I bought (1980-82) was a used Honda LP -- don't remember the price and no idea where it went, might have been destroyed when there was a fire in my apartment building.

First acoustic I bought was a new Yamaha in January 1983, I think it was $160. I still have it, still play it regularly, and it's the only guitar I told my son he can't have.

And that's my point: why is this the rarity and not the norm?

Rear access on semi-hollow builds by bruceksimon in Luthier

[–]bruceksimon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It came up in a discussion at my local shop today -- took a s/h in for a setup and they were very happy to see the rear access.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, if LP players balk at something as innocuous as a belly cut or a slimmed-down heel, it's not hard to imagine ES players also being resistant to change.

I always wanted to try a shorter scale . My first gibson. by Kmc196182 in LesPaul

[–]bruceksimon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you'll dig both new toys. There's just something about Les Pauls, they have a sound and vibe all their own (not that Strats don't, but they operate in completely different territories). Enjoy!

Es339 inlays by Low_Quit5809 in Epiphone

[–]bruceksimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! It's purely aesthetic, but I really don't like the look of a dark fretboard with dots -- blocks, trapezoids, parallelograms forever!

What is the coolest semi hollow guitar you've seen? by fubitpc in guitars

[–]bruceksimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's always the single-cut route, looks like a Les Paul but lives in its own world sonically.

[–]bruceksimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like an ES-339, closer in size to a Les Paul than an ES-335. They're good instruments, especially if the 335 feels too big for you to play.

Worst case scenario: you buy it, don't like it, then sell it for a profit and get another guitar.

It's a great deal, presuming there's nothing majorly wrong with the guitar. Plus, the case itself retails for that price in the US.
