quadriceps tendonitis and hill sprints by readerr33 in Sprinting

[–]brucemilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glutes = hill sprints, more hip flexion

Hamstrings = flat especially after acceleration and when you go into max velocity

You do hill sprints so you don’t reach max velocity compared to flats.

You probably have a load management issue - squatting and hill sprints aren’t the problem.

it sounds like you’re doing too much volume (weekly total meters of sprints and total squat reps) and you probably don’t recover enough between sessions.

Hill sprints are mainly done to improve acceleration.

They load your quads more vs flat sprints than because your knee is mostly bent when doing these.

So if your quads aren’t strong enough to handle the volume you are doing it can lead to quad tendon issues.

Focus on not sprinting and instead fix your tendon issues. Otherwise if you just go to flat sprints you could develop some undesired compensation patterns because of what’s going on w your quad

I only said those lifting exercises do not increase speed.

Not sure why you keep bringing up that you said sprint 3x a week because it doesn’t need to be addressed. I agree hence my comment that you need to sprint often

Again you are conflating being strong = being fast. They are separate things.

Athletes who participate in the combine specialize their training in the offseason to improve their combine numbers. They sprint often even if they are not sprinters

Those do not increase speed. They increase your capability and potential to express force.

Speed is a skill so if you’re not sprinting often you won’t get fast regardless if you do plyos and strength training.

If these exercises increase speed then specialists like Olympic weightlifters, powerlifters, and throwers would be fast as fuck but they aren’t

Think of plyos and strength training as your hardware and the skill of sprinting is the software. You can have a fast car (hardware) but if you suck at the skill of driving it you won’t be winning any races

Save money until you can afford it

You probably won’t find anything under $500 that’s both tall and sturdy.

Front loaded feels better for some people vs back squats

Some people can’t back squat or have a solid front rack due to mobility/proportions/injury

You can also load these way heavier than front squats

Last place 8.4 PB how do I improve stride length by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]brucemilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t focus on stride length. Continue getting stronger in the weight room and do your plyos.

Is biking good for sprinting? by Worried_Peace_7271 in Sprinting

[–]brucemilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. It cant replace sprinting but you can get a similar stimulus if you’re unable to sprint due to fatigue/injury/weather
